TITLE: Biology High School Teacher

POSITION SUMMARY: 

Biology teachers educate high school students to prepare for postsecondary education or the workforce. The main duties include planning, instructing lessons, assessing, and supporting student’s strengths and weaknesses. The teacher must comply with curriculum frameworks, adapt, and enforce classroom policies.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Meet and instruct assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.
2. Plan a program of study that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students and employs a variety of instructional techniques and media.
3. Maintain the classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students.
4. Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and – in harmony with the goals – establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects and the like to communicate these objectives to students.
5. Strive to implement by instruction and action the district’s philosophy of education, instructional goals, and objectives.
6. Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required.
7. Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations.
8. Make provision for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested.
9. Plan and supervise purposeful assignments for teacher aide(s) and volunteer(s) and, cooperatively with department heads, evaluate their job performance.
10. Strive to maintain and improve professional competence.
11. Attend staff meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
12. Other duties as assigned. 

SKILLS/ABILITY:

1. Commitment to ensuring academic success for all students.
2. Experience working with diverse student populations is preferred.
3. Ability to read, interpret, and apply student performance data to instructional planning and execution.
4. Strong written and verbal communication skills; excellent teamwork skills 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES and/or DEGREE REQUIREMENTS:

1. Appropriate MA DESE Certification Required
2. Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred
3. At least one year of full-time teaching experience is preferred

SALARY: As per BTA Contract

CLASSIFICATION: BTA

PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

You are required to be physically capable of escorting students from the building in case of a practice drill or emergency situation in a safe and timely fashion.

Must be able to move about the classroom and have the ability to bend, sit or stand frequently.

DiPietro Elementary (Preschool – Grade 3), Stall Brook Elementary (Preschool – Grade 3) Bellingham Memorial School (grades 4-7) and Bellingham High School (grades 8-12), and Keough Memorial Academy (grades 7-12) is our therapeutic day school for students with special needs.
