JOB DESCRIPTION
PK-5 RLA Instructional Coach
The Instructional Coach partners directly with teachers and leaders as a content instructional specialist on the development and delivery
of high-quality instruction to increase student outcomes. This leadership position serves as a collaborator and liaison between campus
and district staff to implement district instructional initiatives, provide job-embedded professional development, and accomplish
specific district and campus goals. Additionally, in BISD, all stakeholders are considered learners and are expected to continue to learn,
grow, and strive to positively contribute to the world around them.
Reports to: Instructional Strategist Wage/Hour Status: Exempt Location: Districtwide
QUALIFICATIONS/KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
Bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited university
Valid Texas teaching certificate; 5 years teaching experience preferred
Knowledge of subjects assigned
Advanced knowledge of curriculum and instruction and intervention programs
Successful completion of Reading Academy or enroll upon hire
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES
1. Develop relationships with adults that lead to positive change in instructional best practices and student outcomes.
2. Support teachers in implementing the district curriculum/unit plans with fidelity and models how to use the district
curriculum/unit plans to plan instruction and assessment for all learners.
3. Consult with teachers on understanding state standards for proficiency appropriate grade levels and content areas and the
vertical alignment of curriculum.
4. Teach, model, and facilitate research-based best practices within the district instructional program.
5. Observe classroom instruction and provide timely, specific feedback.
6. Provide job-embedded professional learning for individual teachers and collaborative teams that positively impacts student
achievement.
7. Facilitate coaching cycles to support teachers to plan, deliver, and reflect on instruction.
8. Provide support in analyzing student assessment data and assist teachers with instructional decisions based on the data.
9. Attend and actively participate in scheduled district instructional coach meetings and/or trainings and share the learning
with campus.
10. Develop capacity of Teacher Leaders and Effective Collaborative Teams (ECTs) to function effectively to improve student
learning.
11. Collaborate regularly with campus and district instructional leadership.
12. Contribute to the development and refinement of district curriculum resources.
13. Own and support the district's vision for instruction and related work.
14. Embody the BISD ECT Framework and the Teaching and Learning Cycle.
15. Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required.
16. Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and local board policy.
17. Present a positive role model for students that supports the mission of the school district.
18. Establish and maintain a professional relationship and open communication with parents, students, colleagues, supervisors,
and community members.
19. Participate in staff development training programs to improve job-related skills.
20. Participate in the evaluation of this position annually for effectiveness in improving student performance using the locally-
developed Growth & Appraisal Process (GAP) Tool.
