Job Title: Life Skills Educator

Bellwood Development Center is a dynamic, caring, and progressive organization that provides innovative services for adults with intellectual/developmental disabilities.

Job Summary:

We are seeking a creative and dependable Life Skills Educator to join our team in Illinois. The successful candidate will provide support and oversight to staff in the day program setting, serving adults with intellectual/developmental disabilities, and provide direct support and life skills training to individuals served.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as a member of an interdisciplinary team that plans services and activities for our individuals.
  • Provide opportunities for creativity and positive influence.
  • Be part of a collaborative process and enrich the lives of individuals in creative ways.
  • Train and develop daily living, life skills, and activities to achieve success with the people we serve.
  • Assist with community integration.
  • Provide quality services to people we support.

Position Requirements:

  • Desire to make a positive difference in people's lives.
  • Be a team player in a collaborative environment.
  • At least a Bachelor's degree in a human services-related area (such as Psychology, Sociology, Education, and related areas) and one year of experience working with adults with intellectual/developmental disabilities.
  • Possess a valid driver's license.
  • Be available full or part-time during program days/hours (M-F, 8a-4p).
  • Meet the screening requirements for the Healthcare Worker background check.
  • Work requires frequent physical activity, including extended periods of standing, walking, and bending, with occasional periods of sitting, kneeling, climbing, stooping, crouching, squatting, and balancing.
  • Work also requires constant reaching between knee and shoulder level, as well as frequent reaching below knee level and overhead.
  • Work requires occasional independent lifting up to 25 pounds, frequent push/pull up to 40 pounds of force, and the ability to safely transfer 50 pounds.
  • Work requires direct care, including toileting and feeding individuals with disabilities.
