Job Overview:

We're Belmont Nursery, a grower of trees, shrubs, & perennials supplying central California and beyond, and we're looking for detail-oriented and reliable Receiving Associate to join our dynamic nursery team. The Receiving Associate will be responsible for the timely and accurate receipt of trees, shrubs, bedding and hardgoods. Critical aspects of the job include verifying quantities, damage inspection, ensuring the quality and health of plant material, inventory accuracy, finalizing purchase orders, documenting shipping paperwork and working with accounting for timely processing. The ideal candidate has computer skills to utilize our software and hardware technology. Customer service skills are highly valued. Projects may also include pruning, watering, weeding, moving plants, irrigation installation and repair, and general facility maintenance.

Key Responsibilities:

• Receive and unload deliveries, ensuring all items are checked in correctly, working closely with the retail manager and dock team.
• Verify the accuracy of incoming shipments against purchase orders and delivery receipts, signing for the document accuracy and submitting paperwork to accounting immediately.
• Inspect plants for quality, size and pests and hard goods for damage, ensuring any discrepancies are noted and reported.
• Pull special request paperwork and fill the order, placing plants in a will call bay with appropriate paperwork, tape and tag.
• Ensure that all items are properly labeled and tagged, scanning tags for code and price accuracy and ensure plants are placed in their designated areas with irrigation.
• Finalize purchase orders in the software program to maintain accuracy and submit to accounting for payment.
• Communicate with the purchasing and accounting departments with shipment issues.
• Work closely with Retail, Dock, Yard and Contractor projects, including loading customers, pulling orders, outgoing shipments and plant transfers for efficient workflow.
• Ability to complete independent work in collaboration with the inventory team.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization in the receiving area.
• Assist with stock rotation and help ensure proper organization of goods within the nursery.
• Operate material handling equipment (e.g., forklifts, bucket loader) as needed.

Qualifications:

• Previous experience in a receiving or warehouse role is preferred.
• Horticulture or plant identification experience is highly valued.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
• Good communication skills and the ability to work well within a team.
• Ability to lift heavy items and operate a forklift and tractor (training will be provided).
• Basic computer skills (experience with inventory software is a plus).

Physical Requirements:

• Must be able to stand, bend, and lift 25 to 50 lbs. regularly.
• Ability to work outside, including exposure to varying temperatures and noise levels.
• This is entry level work with the opportunity for advancement.
• Spanish speaking skills are a plus.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $16.50 per hour
