Position Overview
We are looking for a talented, hands-on Head Chef to oversee all back-of-house (BOH) operations. You’ll be responsible for leading the kitchen team, maintaining high food quality standards, and ensuring efficient operations. This role requires strong leadership, menu innovation, and business acumen to enhance the guest experience while maximizing food costs and profitability.
Key ResponsibilitiesCulinary Leadership & Menu Innovation
- Serve as a key leader in our culinary program, overseeing all aspects of kitchen operations.
- Develop and execute creative, seasonal menus that balance guest preferences with profitability.
- Standardize recipes, portion sizes, and presentation to maintain consistency and quality.
- Stay current on food trends and bring fresh ideas to enhance our offerings.
Team Development & Kitchen Management
- Hire, train, and mentor a high-performing kitchen team, encouraging a culture of respect and accountability.
- Create and manage weekly kitchen schedules to ensure proper staffing for peak business hours.
- Conduct daily pre-shift meetings to communicate specials, assignments, and cleanliness expectations.
- Lead by example with a hands-on approach, assisting on the line as needed during busy periods.
Food Quality, Inventory & Cost Control
- Oversee all food preparation and cooking to ensure every dish meets our high standards.
- Manage all food inventory, ordering, and vendor relations to maintain optimal stock levels and minimize waste.
- Monitor and control food costs by tracking inventory usage, reducing waste, and optimizing portion control.
- Analyze food cost reports and adjust menu pricing, purchasing, or portion sizes as necessary.
- Conduct regular inventory counts and maintain accurate records.
Cleanliness, Safety & Compliance
- Ensure the kitchen meets all health and safety regulations, maintaining a clean and organized environment.
- Implement and oversee sanitation and food handling standards, ensuring proper labeling, storage, and temperature control.
- Maintain kitchen equipment and coordinate necessary maintenance or repairs.
- Train and enforce safe working practices to prevent injuries and maintain a safe workspace.
Administrative & Cross-Department Collaboration
- Maintain detailed records of schedules, inventory, invoices, and performance evaluations.
- Work closely with FOH management to ensure smooth service flow and seamless guest experiences.
- Assist in planning and executing special events, catering, and seasonal promotions.
- Ensure open communication between the kitchen and front-of-house teams to enhance overall efficiency.
What We’re Looking For
- 5 years of back-of-house experience, including cooking, prep, and expediting.
- Minimum 2 years in a head chef or executive chef role.
- Proven experience managing kitchen staff, training employees, and fostering a positive work culture.
- Strong leadership skills with a focus on team development, accountability, and motivation.
- Experience with food costing, portion control, and inventory management.
- A passion for high-quality food and creativity in menu development.
- Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail.
- Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays as required.
- Physical ability to stand for long hours and lift up to 50 lbs.
