About the job :
The Recreation Services Director sets the direction, administers, plans and manages the activities and operations of the Recreation department.
A day in the life :
The information provided below encompasses the typical duties and capabilities linked with this classification. Duties may include, but are not limited to the following :
- Establishes overall priorities, develops strategic goals and objectives of assigned department; sets direction for each division in the areas of budget, program development, staffing, implementation of cooperative agreements, and facility operations management.
- Participates as part of the District’s Executive Team to establish overall mission and direction of the District.
- Plans, directs, and coordinates, through managers, the Department’s work plan; meets with management staff to identify and resolve problems; assigns projects and programmatic areas of responsibility; reviews and evaluates work methods and procedures.
- Establishes and carries out best business practices for operating the Department to include human resource management, marketing, finance, budgeting, facility management, customer service, and program delivery.
- Represents the Department to other departments, outside agencies, the general public, and before the media; explains, justifies and defends the District, programs, policies and activities; negotiates and resolves sensitive, significant and controversial issues.
- Continuously monitors and evaluates the efficiency and effectiveness of service delivery methods and procedures; assesses and monitors work load, administrative and support systems, and internal reporting relationships; identifies opportunities for improvement; directs the implementation of change.
- Actively promotes and supports diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) in the workplace through staffing, promotions, training and career development. Models and respects diversity in the workplace.
- Provides leadership to individual managers to establish goals and objectives and set direction for each of their divisions.
- Provides a variety of information including analysis and formal presentations to the Board of Directors, Executive Director and other departments.
- Formulates and presents annual budget for assigned department; reviews, monitors, and adjusts expenditures and revenues to remain within established budgetary constraints.
- Acts as a Mandatory Reporter; reports incidents of child abuse / neglect.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Reports directly to the Executive Director. Operates entirely independently with the exception of confirming major decisions.
Supervision Exercised :
Direct supervision is exercised over managers including hiring, training, evaluating and managing performance, goal development, providing discipline, responding to grievances and making termination decisions.

Salary : $125,168 - $155,208
