POSITION SUMMARY: Performs Radiographic studies, and related procedures at a technical level not requiring direct supervision in accordance with established center guidelines
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education, Licensure and Certification:
· A high school diploma or equivalent is required
· Graduate of an accredited Radiology Technologist program
· Must maintain BLS certification
· Current Oregon Board of Medical Imaging License (OBMI) and American Registry of Radiological Technologists (ARRT.)
Experience: Prefer at least one (1) years previous experience in similar surgical setting
Physical: Good physical health required because of long periods of standing, walking and work required. Must be well coordinated and able to move about freely. Dexterity necessary. Visual and audio acuity. Speak clearly and distinctly. Neat, clean and particular about appearance. Must be able to stoop, bend, push, pull and lift minimum of 25lbs frequently, 50lbs occasionally.
Mental: Stamina to withstand stress and strain. Good memory, patient and tactful. Emotional stability. Able to both listen and direct. Skill in organization.
Mathematical skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, decimals, and percentages.
Job Skills & Requirements:
· Knowledge of radiographic exposure techniques including use of formula for determining technical factors, how to control density, contrast, and distortion, and use of intensifying screens, busks, collimators, filters, grids, and other accessories to produce radiographs of high diagnostic quality with minimum of retakes.
· Thorough Knowledge of radiation protection standards, devices and techniques including concepts of accumulated dosage and genetic changes, and the effects of radiation on living organisms. Knowledge of the effects of X-ray technique on patient and operator exposure in order to assure that adequate safeguards and maintained. Knowledge to recognize when changes of equipment or procedures might result in increased exposures and recommend methods of practice to prevent such exposure.
JOB RELATIONSHIPS: Responsible to the Endoscopy Manager. Does not supervise any other employees.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Performs Radiology, and interventional examinations in accordance with department policies, procedures, and protocols
· Follows Health and Safety Policies and Procedures of Quality Care
· Assists in record maintenance and statistics as requested
· Participates in student training program as requested
· Assists with special projects as requested
· Ensures operation of radiology equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs; maintaining equipment inventories; evaluating new equipment and techniques
· Maintains radiology supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed supplies; placing and expediting orders for supplies; verifying receipt of supplies
· Complies with federal, state, and local legal and professional requirements by studying existing and new legislation; anticipating future legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; advising management on needed actions
· Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies
· Maintains safe and clean working environment
· Gains patient cooperation by reducing anxieties; providing explanations of treatment; answering questions
· Prepares patient for radiological procedure by positioning patient; adjusting immobilization devices; moving equipment into specified position; adjusting equipment controls to set exposure factors
· Minimizes radiation to patient and staff by practicing radiation protection techniques, using beam restrictive devices, patient shielding, and knowledge of exposure factors
· Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols; following drug protocols in case of reactions to drugs, such as contrast media, administering first aid, and using the emergency cart
· Maintains production and quality of radiographs by following established standards and procedures; developing radiographs; observing radiographic results; making necessary adjustments
· Documents patient care services by charting in patient and department records
· Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
· Days and hours of work vary to meet patient or center needs
· The Center is a well-lit, ventilated and climate-controlled environment. The Center may require decreased lighting to meet patient care needs or procedure requirements, such as laser rooms and some OR/Procedure rooms
· Ability to work with medical and office equipment, some of which will have moving parts
· Noise level is usually quiet to moderate
· May have exposure to blood and other potentially infectious body fluids and materials or toxic chemicals and cleaning solutions
· Procedure rooms are often small, and due to equipment may have little room to work around and may necessitate reaching, pulling, pushing
· Work in close proximity to patients and co-workers
