The Yoetzet is responsible for providing assistance and support to campers and staff regarding interpersonal, intrapersonal, and behavioral concerns within the guidelines set by the Bender JCC of Greater Washington. Core Responsibilities include:
Supervision and Engagement
- Supervise and engage with all participants (ages 4-21) in programs and activities while under the position’s care.
- Engage campers and staff in building positive relationships with each other.
Leadership and Professional Development
- Mentor counselors in creating fulfilling group activities by modeling and providing ideas, suggestions and materials.
- Maintain a positive attitude and incorporate a solution-based approach.
Camper Care
- Act as a resource for staff in creating positive environments that lead to desired behavior.
- Troubleshoot solutions for behavior management on a camper-by-camper or staff-by-staff basis.
- Observe camp groups to ensure proper training solutions are being used to manage group and individual behavior management.
- Implement behavior charts, visual schedules, etc. as needed, in coordination with Unit Leadership, Unit Teams, Specialists, and Inclusion Team
Preparation, Planning, and Organization
- Perform pre-camp responsibilities including meeting with the nurses, Inclusion Director and Unit Heads regarding camper behavior plans and specific needs of each camper.
- Assist in the creation and implementation of camp programs including electives, unit programs, special events, late stays, overnights and camp-wide programs.
- Create orientation and ongoing camp training sessions regarding communication, healthy relationships, and behavior management.
- Prepare and present agenda items at weekly staff meetings and Leadership Team meetings as needed.
Communication and Attendance
- Attend pre-camp meetings including Inclusion, Leadership Team and other scheduled meetings.
- Attend all required sessions, orientations, staff meetings, late stays, and trips planned for the group(s).
Qualifications
Qualifications include:
- Experience in social work, school counseling, child development, or a related field is preferred.
- Familiarity with supporting children with diverse needs, including social, emotional, and behavioral challenges.
- Ability to physically assist campers in and out of the pool.
- Access to a device larger than a phone with reliable internet access for virtual orientation, meetings, and potential virtual programming.
- Ability to take initiative to solve problems and be willing to seek assistance in solving problems.
- Must be able to spend an extended period of time outdoors and in the pool.
- Ability to move equipment and supplies as required.
- Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
- Current certification in CPR and First Aid preferred.
- Prior experience working with school-aged campers of all abilities.
- Be accepting of, and sensitive to the diverse racial, national, sexual orientation, gender identity, abilities, religious and cultural backgrounds of everyone at Lessans Camp JCC
- Willingness to be flexible and adapt to changes in schedule, responsibilities, and Lessans Camp JCC activities as needed.
Priority will be given to candidates who are available the entire camp season starting on June 16 going through August 8.
Additional Information
The salary range for this position is $4,200 - $5,550 (total pay for the regular camp season). Salary is determined based on experience including previous experience at Lessans Camp JCC. Current educators, relevant degree, and advanced certification bonuses available.
