POSITION SUMMARY:
Provides advanced technical support and leadership to all areas of the plant in assessment, implementation, and support of manufacturing equipment. Assists in formal problem-solving activities. Facilitates continuous improvement and ensures quality of products through engineering and statistical practices to maintain and improve manufacturing process controls.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Serves as a technical leader and supports operations management in all areas.
- Maintains, updates, and continually works to reduce RPN numbers on PFMEA’s.
- Develops, maintains, and improves documentation regarding automation standards and processes for new and existing equipment in accordance with ISO14001 and IATF 16949 standards.
- Designs, refines, and improves plant equipment / processes.
- Program, configure, and integrate new equipment into existing systems.
- Robotic integration specialist. Able to program and troubleshoot robotic applications. Specifically, Fanuc robots are used throughout Bendix and Knorr Bremse.
- Develop custom automation solutions to support active manufacturing projects.
- Responsible for the design and integration of control systems for automated production environment.
- Diagnose and resolve issues in automated systems to minimize downtime.
- Analyze production processes to identify opportunities for automation or optimization.
- Assist in development of internal training programs.
- Collaborates with suppliers on quoting process description, cost, and lead times.
- Works with hourly team members, quality engineers, HSE, and operations to improve, safety, quality, productivity, and reduce scrap.
- Interfaces with corporate Advanced Manufacturing Team on new equipment and products coming to the facility.
- Develops, maintains, and presents performance reports as needed.
- Participates and leads corrective actions on customer complaints as needed.
- Is responsible for new product launches involving automation; concept development to start of production.
- Serves as a leader and mentor regarding safety policies and procedures. Operates all machinery, tools, and equipment in accordance with company safety policies.
- Interfaces with suppliers to coordinate action on failure issues on parts and services.
- Works weekend and off shift hour support as required based on business needs.
- Understands current quality policies and procedures (IATF 16949). Is empowered to identify, stop, and communicate or escalate appropriate action regarding product quality.
- Performs other duties as requested, directed, or assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical or mechanical engineering, computer science or related field is required.
- Requires at least 5 years of engineering experience in a fast paced, continuous improvement, production environment.
- Strong Problem-solving skills required.
- Must be able to interpret electrical and mechanical schematics.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite is required. Statistical evaluation software familiarity a plus.
- Proficient in 3D or 2D CAD Software
- Excellent written and oral communications skills
- Requires experience with control systems design, specification, documentation, programming, troubleshooting, testing, and installation for automations for manufacturing equipment.
- Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing techniques with emphasis on Standardized Work, Continuous Improvement, 5S, and JIT principles is required.
- Experience using software driven controls: Programmable Logic Controllers, Allen Bradley RS Logix 5000, Siemens Step 7, Robotics (Fanuc), Beckhoff, National instruments, Vision Systems (Cognex), and process control systems including torque, position, and force control preferred.
- Experience with cloud, SCADA, and MES software systems.
- Experience with industrial communication protocols
- Experience with robotic systems and motion control.
- Knowledge of SPC, GD&T, Lean Manufacturing and Green Belt preferred.
