Last year, Franklin Cummings Tech educated more than 1,000 learners across three student types : 1) certificate and degree seekers, 2) continuing education clients, and 3) high schoolers pursuing early college. As further evidence that our mission holds resonance, this year the college tracked a 25% year-over-year jump in fall new student enrollment and applications soared.

Position Summary :
The Assistant Director of Special Programs is a passionate advocate for students and actively leads and contributes to institution-wide efforts to further improve graduation and retention rates of our student body. The Assistant Director of Special Program Coach manages a large caseload of students by providing academic, career, and personal support to our students. They report to the Director of Early College and Community Connections and their main goal is to increase student retention through student support and collaborations. This position is the primary contact person for all Early College and Continuing Education and Workforce Program (CEWP) students, which is a caseload of approximately 80-100 plus students each semester. To help manage the student load, this position needs to focus on the Key Responsibilities.

Furthermore, all staff and faculty across the institution collaborate to support student recruitment, retention, and success.
Student Support
The Assistant Director of Special Programs main goal is to increase student retention through student support and collaborations. This position is the primary contact person for all Early College, Prison and Re-entry Education Program (PREP), and Continuing Education and Workforce Programs (CEWP) students each semester. To help manage the student load, the Assistant Director of Special Programs Coach will :
- Assist in the planning and execution of New Student Orientations (CEWP, PREP, and Early College), including facilitating student session
- Follow up on onboarding process, Early College, PREP, and CEWP Student Resource Guide that includes, set up of their learning management, student portal, and email systems, curriculum review, and introduction to campus resources to ensure that all students have all the access needed to start their class(s)
- Contact all Early College, PREP, and CEWP students weekly / bi-weekly for one-on-one advising sessions as needed
- Lead Student Success Workshops
- Follow up with students that are not engaging
- Handle any new student issue as soon as possible
- Host office hours both online and on campus to accommodate students' needs
- Be on campus at least 3-4 days a week to support students as needed
- Be up to date with any academic alerts by working with the student, professor, and liaison to create a success plan for the student
- Promote academic success by continually monitoring student progress throughout the semester
- Work closely with faculty to ensure that students are engaged and are maintaining satisfactory academic progress
- Join the weekly Students of Concern Committee to review student attendance, grades, trends, and develop outreach strategies
- Participate in the collection and analysis of data regarding student success to help increase student retention
- Send students reminders and updates, including Add / Drop and withdrawal deadline (stay up to date with the Academic Calendar)
- Encourage students to take advantage of all the resources available to them at Franklin Cummings Tech
- Assist students with exploring Franklin Cummings Tech major(s) of interest
- Assist students through the registration and re-enrollment process each semester
- Keep current on all aspects of academic programs, academic support services, student information system procedures, enrollment processes and procedures, college policies, mission, and philosophy
- Other duties as assigned
