Case Manager - Legal Assistant

We are seeking a detail-oriented, highly organized, passionate, emotionally mature, and self-directed person who can take on a wide variety of responsibilities that bridge the roles of legal assistant, client services specialist, and case manager. This position will be hybrid, with an emphasis on efficient and quality remote work if a sufficient environment for a confidential and quiet home office exists (to protect the attorney-client privilege and be most efficient).

We are a fast-growing boutique criminal defense law firm that has been a part of the Kansas City metropolitan area since 2002, with a sterling reputation for excellence in criminal defense. We have an office in Belton, MO are looking for a full-time Legal Assistant/Case Manager for a criminal defense caseload that includes felonies, misdemeanors, municipal court, traffic cases, driver's license cases, and expungements.

As a Case Manager, you will have direct interaction with clients and potential clients while providing legal and administrative support according to our Firm's policies and procedures.

You must care deeply about the mission of the Firm and the Firm's relationship with clients.

What are some characteristics that a Case Manager should have?

We are looking for a positive person. Our office does not tolerate toxic or negative attitudes. “Not my job” cannot be part of your vocabulary or attitude. "Drama" cannot be your go-to reaction to the stress of this kind of work.

Experience is a must. Prior experience as a legal assistant or paralegal is required, and if that experience is with a criminal defense firm, then that is even better. Experience with Clio Manage and Clio Grow is preferred, but not required. We require proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office and Mac computers.

We require staff to type at a minimum of 50 words per minute. You must have real-world, hands-on experience managing group calendars and multiple schedules, especially resolving scheduling conflicts.

We are looking for a team player. Our office is a team environment; we have each other's back. We are looking for someone who is able to convey a sense of empathy and caring in order to put clients at ease. This job requires compassion for people going through a very difficult time in their lives.

You MUST be able to prioritize your tasks and think on your feet while making smart decisions. You MUST be able to handle working with several different databases of information; oftentimes simultaneously. If you are 100% confident in managing data and people, you are the right person for this job.
