What are the responsibilities and job description for the Shop Hand position at Bennett Glass and Mirror?
The Shop hand is a critical team member at Bennett Glass and Mirror (a wholly owned subsidiary of Northern Arizona Glassworks LLC) who acts as the principle point of contact for organization and all inventory levels of the shop including: receiving, stocking, and tracking. The Shop hand organizes and may assists journeyman Glazier crews and Glass Shop Techs in the preparation and facilitation of all installations and repairs of commercial, residential, and automotive glass work.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- (70%) Organize, maintain, upkeep, and repair/replace all tools, equipment, workspace, facilities, and materials in and around the premises
- (10%) Capably and courteously complete “flat glass” (board) work requests.
- (10%) Organization of materials, receiving, stocking, and tracking for all commercial/residential performed timely and with minimal error
- (5%) Willingly and agreeably help perform fabrications, installations and replacements of glass and aluminum products (flat glass work, automotive glass, windows, mirrors, glass doors, storefronts, shower enclosures, etc) mainly at the company’s physical location but occasionally at various offsite locations.
- (5%) Other duties as assigned
- Physical demands: Position requires active work/interaction throughout diverse offsite work spaces as well as throughout the entire company facility. Must be able to: maneuver tight aisles, walk on uneven surfaces, work the entirety of the day on one’s feet, handle large/heavy/sharp glass units, regularly lift 50 pounds, occasionally lift up to 100 pounds, climb stairs and ladders, work outdoors and in unconditioned spaces through all seasons, and work at numerous varied off site locations. Work requires frequent bending, lifting, and twisting.
- Must arrive at work in a clean and proper uniform, be clean and neat in appearance, and practice acceptable hygiene. Must address all customers in a friendly and professional manner, perform well under pressure, and be able to respond positively and courteously respond to customers at all times and situations
- Must be self-driven, well-organized, and able to evaluate assigned work and perform within the time allotted/estimated. Must demonstrate a willingness to work, learn, and provide quality workmanship at all times.
- Must comprehend and adhere to safe work practices. The company safety manual offers general direction and instruction on many safe work practices but the employee is expected to assess all work situations and adopt the proper safety precautions to carry out the work
REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be 18 years of age
- Must be a U.S. citizen and/or present valid work authorization
- Preference given to prior experience but not required
- Must present valid Arizona driver’s license and incident free driving record for the past 3 years
