POSITION SUMMARY

Primary responsibilities include providing administrative oversight and direction for the Inpatient Medical and in-house outpatient services (Wound care, Cardiac Rehabilitation and Infusion) at Benson Hospital. This position supervises and coordinates activities of nursing personnel, provides accountability for planning, directing, leading, and evaluating nursing care within the departments. Primary responsibilities include hiring and scheduling staff, participating in various hospital committees and monitoring quality initiatives for the unit. The scope of responsibility includes 24-hour clinical accountability for the Nursing departments in conjunction with other Clinical Supervisors.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1. Supervises and coordinate activities of nursing personnel

2. Promotes the mission, vision, and values of the organization.

3. Facilitate staff meetings and participate on other committees, as assigned by the Director of Nursing.

4. Promotes and supports a collaborative team approach in providing care for all patients.

5. Approaches associates in a tactful manner and treats them with respect and consideration. Impose disciplinary action when necessary.

6. Follows through on commitments; accepts responsibility for personal actions; and adapts to change.

7. Supports and interprets policies, procedures, philosophy, and objectives of the hospital.

8. Monitors customer satisfaction scores and implement plans to improve them.

9. Monitor patient volumes, quality of care, and performance of staff to identify areas for improvement.

10. Responsible for investigating patient, physician and staff complaints and concerns and works to resolve them.

11. Completes annual performance evaluations for nursing associates. Implement plans of correction when needed.

12. Use problem-solving and conflict resolution skills to foster effective work relationships with team members.

13. Assures required competencies for associates are completed.

14. Assists with the implementation and enforcement of the policies and procedures in the Nursing Departments.

15. Reviews Inpatient Medical patient charts for proper documentation by both the ED physicians and nurses.

16. Supervises the daily operations of the Wound, Infusion and Cardiac Rehabilitation outpatient services.

17. Acts as a resource person for Nursing staff.

18. Acts as back-up in emergent or urgent situations in all nursing areas.

19. Prepares staff assignments, observes performance, and tracks meeting attendance to provide input for formal evaluations and recommendations for personnel actions.

20. Coordinates staffing and scheduling of nursing personnel to maintain adequate staff for the delivery of nursing care.

21. Calculates the payroll hours for nursing personnel every two weeks.

22. Demonstrates ability to lift, transfer and transport patients in wheelchair, bed or stretcher utilizing appropriate transfer device.

23. Coordinates and assists all Performance Improvement nursing initiatives.

PROFFESIONAL REQUIREMENTS

1. Adheres to dress code; appearance is neat and clean. Wear proper identification while on duty.

2. Completes annual education requirements.

3. Always maintain patient confidentiality.

4. Reports to work on time and as scheduled.

5. Maintains regulatory requirements, including all state, federal and local regulations.

6. Always represents the organization in a positive and professional manner, including on social media.

7. Comply with all organizational policies and standards regarding ethical business practices.

8. Participate in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement activities.

9. Attend leadership meetings and hospital wide in-services.

10. Supports quality improvement initiatives through team participation, data collection, process change implementation and other activities.

11. Performs other duties as requested by Director of Nursing or assigned within the scope of the Nursing Department and within approved licensure and certifications.

12. Bi-annual reviews and revisions of the Nursing Department Policy and Procedures.

6. Adheres to organizational and department specific safety and infection control standards and guidelines.

7. Identifies concerns with customer/patient’s need by gathering information about the underlying need, devising action plan, and following through with resolution.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

1. Graduate from an accredited school of Nursing

2. Current Arizona Registered Nurse License

3. BSN - Preferred Education

4. Two years of professional nursing experience. Minimum one year experience in Emergency Nursing.

5. Maintain current BLS/CPR as per Benson Hospital policy

6. Maintain current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification

7. Maintain current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification

8. Maintain current Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (CPI) certification

9. Additional certification recommendations - ATCN, CEN, NRP, TNCC, etc.

1. Knowledge of emergency medical services.

2. Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.

3. Ability to determine appropriate course of action in more complex situations.

4. Ability to work independently, exercise creativity, be attentive to detail, and maintain a positive attitude.

5. Ability to manage multiple and simultaneous responsibilities and to prioritize scheduling of work.

6. Ability to maintain confidentiality of all medical, financial, and legal information.

7. Ability to complete work assignments accurately and in a timely manner.

8. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

9. Ability to handle difficult situations involving patients, physicians, or others in a professional manner.
