JOB TITLE: Water Treatment Plant Operator

Benton Charter Township will be accepting applications for a full time or part time Water Treatment Plant Operator beginning now through Thursday June 27th. The 3.6MGD microfiltration plant pulls water from Lake Michigan and adds chlorine and fluoride before distribution to the Township’s customers. We are located near the shores of Lake Michigan with its beautiful views and beaches.

This position requires that the operator have or acquire a State of Michigan F-4 water treatment license. For applicants without a Michigan water treatment license, you will be given at least two attempts to pass the F-4 license exam(s). A current water license and previous experience is preferred. Under the direction of the Township and water plant superintendent, the water treatment plant operator performs tasks assuring the proper and effective operation of the water treatment plant and pumps on a rotating schedule. There are two regular shifts, 7am - 3pm and 3pm - 11pm. No night shifts. A water plant operator is required to work in all phases of plant operations, maintenance, compliance, and laboratory work. Further, a water treatment plant operator must comply with all Michigan Dept. of EGLE recertification requirements.

In addition, all applicants must be able to pass a physical examination, drug/alcohol screening test, and background check. Other minimum qualifications apply. E.O.E.

Beginning salary range, based on experience and qualifications, is $19-32hr. Full time position also includes health insurance, benefits, and retirement contribution.

JOB DUTIES: A Water Plant Operator must be able to routinely perform, after sufficient training, a majority of the duties set forth in each of the six job categories. Job duties are not strictly limited to this list.

Perform & Monitor Filter Backwash and Cleaning Cycles

Calibrate On-Line Instrumentation

4. CHEMICAL TREATMENT, ADDITION & DOSING

Calculate Chemical Dosage

Fill Chemical Day Tanks

Adjust Treatment Rate/Dose

Collect and Analyze Grab Samples

Order and Inspect Chemical Deliveries

5. LABORATORY

Collect and Analyze Drinking Water Samples on a Set Basis

Perform Bacteriological Tests

Perform Daily Analytical and Turbidity Tests

Prepare Reagents & Calibration Standards

Calibrate and maintain Lab Instruments

General Housekeeping

6. PLANT ADMINISTRATION & COMPLIANCE

Complete EGLE Operation Reports (MORs)

Respond to Customer Complaints

Schedule Routine Maintenance

Maintain Spare Parts & Chemical Inventory

Train & Assist Treatment Plant Personnel

Prepare & Maintain Plans and Documents

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Possession of Michigan Water Treatment license preferred.

Have the ability to use and maintain testing equipment associated with water treatment.

Have the ability to read meters and gauges and to interpret findings.

Have the ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.

Be able to work cooperatively with others.

Must have computer proficiency, including Microsoft Word and Excel.

Must be physically able to climb, enter tight/confined spaces, and manipulate heavy objects.

Must be able to pass physical examination and drug/alcohol screening test.

Must be able to pass a background check.

Shift schedule: Starting on a Tuesday, 8 days on day shift, 2 days off, 7 days on afternoon shift, 4 days off. This 3-week schedule keeps repeating.

STARTING SALARY RANGE: $19-32hr depending on license(s) held and experience.

Pay: $19.00 - $32.00 per hour
