JOB DESCRIPTION
TITLE: English Language Learner Paraprofessional
LOCATION: District-Wide
SUPERVISOR: Building Principal
JOB SUMMARY: Provide classroom suports to English as a Second language students
QUALIFICATIONS:

60 college credit hours, Bachelor's degree preferred

Must be fluent in English and Spanish, particularly in the areas of Speaking, Reading, and Writing

Strong communication and public speaking skills

Ability to work with studnets and district personnel
JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Outreach to mostly non-English speaking parents regarding student performance including attendance, behavior, academic achievement, health, and medical problems after regular school procedures have been exhausted; participate in SST and Individual Education Plan (IEP) meetings.

Communicate information about conferences and upcoming meetings in Spanish (when general fund translator is unavailable).

Assist with the identification of new English Language Learners in the district.

Perform other position-related duties as assigned by the Teaching and Learning Department.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Ability to receive and execute instructions, assignments or directions from superiors.

Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to prepare correspondence, reports, forms, position statement, meeting summaries, etc., using prescribed formats. Requires the ability to speak before groups of people with poise, voice control, and confidence. Thorough knowledge of grammatical rules, spelling, punctuation and formats required.

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs and all other statistical measurement tools.

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed and involved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations. Ability to utilize courtesy and tact when communicating with others to deliver clear and concise messages.

Terms of Employment:
One hundred and Ninety (180) day work year. Salary based on education and experience pursuant to the Benton Harbor Area School District policies.

Performance of this job will be evaluated by the Teaching and Learning Department.
