The Student Engagement Coordinator creates environments and programs to facilitate student involvement and cocurricular engagement within Berea’s co-curricular engagement model. Working out of the Office of Student Involvement & Engagement, the person in this position will participate in cross-functional programming, work with student organizations, and share administrative and student service responsibility across the Student Life areas.

Are you an experienced higher education professional looking for a new opportunity? Do you have a passion for fostering a vibrant, inclusive campus community? Berea College is looking for a Student Engagement Coordinator. The Student Engagement Coordinator creates environments and programs to facilitate student involvement and cocurricular engagement within Berea’s co-curricular engagement model. Working out of the Office of Student Involvement & Engagement, the person in this position will participate in cross-functional programming, work with student organizations, and share administrative and student service responsibility across the Student Life areas.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and manage late-night events, ensuring a vibrant, inclusive, and engaging environment for students. This includes planning, coordinating, and promoting Mountaineers After Dark programs and other late-night activities.
- Build strong, proactive relationships with student leaders, fostering their development through mentorship, leadership training, and creative problem-solving opportunities to help them cultivate their leadership potential.
- Provide guidance and oversight for student organizations, including facilitating leadership training, managing the re-registration process, and supporting new organization approvals. Ensure that student organizations adhere to budget and spending guidelines.
- Serve as the primary advisor for the ICC, guiding student leadership in elections, budget allocations, conflict resolution, and the approval of new organizations. Foster self-governance and a strong, collaborative student organization community.
- Oversee the Anthology student organization software platform, ensuring that content is up-to-date, relevant, and actively used by students, faculty, and staff to support co-curricular engagement.
- Collaborate with Student Life and campus partners to design and implement a diverse calendar of events, emphasizing late-night, weekend, and community-building programs. Ensure all events meet risk management and contractual guidelines.
- Lead the creation and execution of targeted marketing campaigns to promote student events, programs, and student organization initiatives across campus, fostering maximum engagement.
- Train, evaluate, and provide ongoing mentorship to student employees in Campus Life, ensuring a positive and enriching work experience that promotes skill development and leadership growth.
- Actively promote and support programming that highlights and celebrates cultural diversity, such as Black History Month, Latin Heritage Month, Women’s History Month, Indigenous Peoples Day, and others.
- Plan, coordinate, and oversee major campus events like Welcome Week, Homecoming, Mountain Day, and other major campus events, ensuring they are inclusive, successful, and in line with institutional goals.
- Assess the success of events and programs in relation to student learning outcomes, the mission of the Student Life division, and the broader vision of the college.
- Supervise, schedule, and mentor students in Campus Life labor positions, helping them develop important workplace skills and contributing to the overall success of Campus Life initiatives.
- In support of Berea College’s great commitments this position requires student supervision. The fourth great commitment is to promote learning and serving in community through the student labor program, honoring the dignity and utility of all work, mental and manual, and taking pride in work well done. The Supervision would include scheduling, assigning and approving work performed. Developing students about common workplace acumen and giving them tangible work experience is an expected outcome. - Other roles/duties will be assigned as necessary to assist the College in the attainment of the goals set forth and the enhancement of a positive, respectful learning environment for all staff, faculty and students.
Education required to ensure success in this position:
- Bachelor’s Degree, required
- Master’s Degree in student personnel, higher education administration, or a related field is preferred.
- Two years’ work experience in higher education including student development, program development, and/or administrative experience.
- Strong desire to build relationships with students, colleagues, and college partners.
- Strong organizational, interpersonal, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Excellent programming skills to plan and implement events.
- Commitment to inclusion and desire to work with diverse groups of people. Experience working with culturally diverse populations.
- Integrity, sound judgment, and the ability to make values-based decisions.
- Ability to work as part of a collaborative team. Strong desire to build relationships with students, colleagues, and college partners.
- Knowledge of accounting principles (i.e., constructing and balancing budgets).
- Must be punctual and follow through on commitments.
- Ability to provide good customer service.
- Ability to work effectively in a team.
- An understanding and appreciation for the liberal arts and residential colleges.
- Experience advising student organization(s) is desirable.
- Experience working with Campus Labs, Anthology, or another similar student organization online resource is desirable.
- A propensity for creativity and innovation, positive attitude, cultural competence, and creative problem solving.
- Knowledge of Student Development Theory or Higher Education Philosophy/Pedagogy
- Ability to attend, monitor, and lead events and meetings as late as 12:00am as needed
- Valid Driver’s License
- Ability to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends
- Must have the physical dexterity and visual and auditory acuity to freely negotiate campus environments to supervise and assist students preparing facilities for various program uses.
- Requires stooping, bending, and lifting up to 25lbs.
- Most work is performed in office settings with heavy foot traffic and frequent interruption
- Must be willing to work in shared space environments as part of a team structure
