What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Varsity Volleyball Coach position at Beresford School District?
Requirements:
Education: BA/BS Education preferred.
Experience: High school head coaching and teaching experience desired.
Physical Requirements: Hand-eye/mind-eye coordination, physical dexterity, the
ability to bend, stoop, walk, talk, and sit. The ability to travel between locations.
Other Requirements: Fundamentals of Coaching or equivalent (must be completed one
time); Sports First Aid or Prevention and Care of Athletic Injuries or equivalent (must be
renewed once every two years); Concussion in Sports - What You Need to Know (must
be renewed on an annual basis). High school/college participation preferred.
Essential Functions & Duties:
A. Assumes responsibility for the entire program, including:
- coaches the varsity squad;
- supervises assistant coaches 9-12, and junior high level coaches 7-8;
- determines athlete participation during practices and games, including squad level and playing time, in conjunction with assistant coach at the respective level;
- positively promotes the athletic program within the schools and the community;
- gives guidance to middle school coaches and programs feeding into respective high schools;
- implements District athletic department policies.
B. Assists in the selection and evaluation of assistant coaches.
C. Works with the Activities Director in:
- formulation of game schedules
- selection of contest officials
- arrangements for out-of-town trips
- arrangements for home games
- arrangements for physical examinations
- preparation of athletic permission slips and eligibility lists
- preparation of budgets, equipment and supply requisitions
- scouting arrangements
- arrangements for senior recognition, parents' night, and awards program
D. Works with activities director to coordinate the practice schedules of 'C', junior varsity,
and varsity squads.
E. Supervises locker rooms and playing area during and following periods of team
participation.
F. Remains with students and supervises when traveling to away games.
G. Cares for athletes and injured athletes.
H. Cares for and maintains equipment and annual inventories.
I. Prepares award lists.
J. Attends conference meetings or any other meeting where the program is involved.
K. Operates within the policies of the conference and SDHSAA.
L. Works closely with custodians in facility preparation.
M. Keeps informed on current trends in designated sport and participates in respective
clinics.
N. Maintains active membership in related professional organizations.
O. Prepares list when teams are taken out of school to participate in athletic contests.
P. Maintains a professional relationship with other coaches.
Q. Performs other duties as assigned by the Principal or Activities Director.
