SUMMARY
Bering Straits Global Innovations, a subsidiary of Bering Straits Native Corporation, is currently seeking a qualified Water Treatment Plan Operator and Consultant for our temporary Water Treatment Plant located at the Bee Tree Reservoir, North Carolina. The individual will act as consultant and bridge pretreatment and existing treatment plant operations. It is expected that the individual will evaluate the site conditions and make recommendations to the project team as needed to make informed decisions on operations and maintenance of the pre treatment system in addition to being the Class A Operator on an as needed basis.
Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
The Essential Duties and Responsibilities are intended to present a descriptive list of the range of duties performed for this position and are not intended to reflect all duties performed within the job. Other duties may be assigned.
- Check chemical levels and refill or replace containers
- Check water levels and pump operations
- Run routine laboratory tests every two hours to determine proper chemical treatment
- Maintain plant records
- Observes and inspects plant quality of raw water and all plant equipment
- Collects water samples and sends/delivers them to Tarrant County Health Laboratory
- Maintains chemical feed pumps to ensure proper dosage of chemicals
- Backwash filters as required
- Must be capable of using push mower and tractor mower to maintain facility grounds
- Will be responsible for keeping buildings and work areas clean
- Will assist in minor maintenance on machinery and equipment
- Prepare daily reports on plant operations and controls
- Ability to move 40 pound bags and 55 pound buckets of chemicals
- Will be subject to emergency call-outs as needed
- Must be available to work any shift either day or night as the Plant is a 24/7 facility
- Performs routine grounds and building maintenance
- Perform Class A Operator duties as needed

Required (Minimum Necessary) Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Subject to random drug/alcohol testing throughout employment
- Must have and maintain satisfactory driving record
- Valid North Carolina driver's license required
- Class A water treatment plant operator certification
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics
- Understand and follow oral and written instructions
- Work without direct supervision
- Attend and understand technical courses
- Detect problems in equipment operations
- Make sound, independent, decisions requiring treatment plant operations
NECESSARY PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Essential and marginal functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for bending, stooping, sitting, walking or standing for prolonged periods of time. Climbing, cleaning, crawling, driving, holding tools, kneeling, pulling/pushing equipment. Must be able to hear radio transmissions, see equipment and gauges, stand for long periods of time and lift up to 60 lbs.
DOT COVERED/SAFETY-SENSITIVE ROLE REQUIREMENTS
- This position is not subject to federal requirements regarding Department of Transportation “safety-sensitive” functions.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work Environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be borne by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
The job is performed in extreme cold and hot temperatures, working outdoors and in confined spaces. This position also has some exposure to chemicals and toxic waste hazards.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
- No supervisory responsibilities.
ADDITIONAL QUALIFYING FACTORS
As a condition of employment, you will be required to pass a pre-employment drug screening and have acceptable background check results. If applicable to the contract, you must also obtain the appropriate clearance levels required and be able to obtain access to military installations.
