JOB DESCRIPTION

A BPG Safety Specialist plays a critical role in the Safety operations. The Safety Specialist is responsible for welcoming and connecting with each patient, communicating a “patient first” attitude to all visitors. The Safety Specialist monitors the facility, grounds and surrounding neighborhood to ensure that patients and employees may safely receive services from BPG. Also, the Safety Specialist enforces BPG’s policies for facility access and educates community members about BPG’s good neighbor policies. The Safety Specialist observes patients and staff to ensure compliance and, when necessary, intervenes to peacefully de-escalate conflicts.

Key Responsibilities
- Greets all guests in a friendly, professional, and hospitable manner; educates patients and other visitors about BPG’s policies
- Provides a safe and secure internal and external BPG environment, implementing BPG safety policies to ensure the safety of employees, patients and company assets at all times
- Monitors BPG property and immediate surrounding areas, (e.g., parking lot gates, front of the property line,parking lot posts and internal access points, etc.)
- Performs scheduled and random inspection patrols of physical premises
- Observes, cautions, instructs, corrects, investigates and reports persons or incidents involving unusual suspicious or unwanted activity such as vandalism, property damage or rule infractions
- Identifies potential security and safety risks, or undesirable conditions and reports such activities according to BPG reporting protocols
- Responds to all emergency situations including, but not limited to, medical emergencies, undesirable conduct, violations of company policies or civil law; assists until proper authorities arrive
- In conjunction with other Safety Team members, directs all incoming and outgoing vehicles to control traffic and parking in the lot
- Conducts crowd control at front door and in dispensary area, forming lines and updating patients to help manage their service expectations during busy periods
- Determines admission or denial to any visitor or patient, questioning and removing persons as necessary; coordinates actions with Safety Manager, and/or Manager-on-Duty as needed
- Communicates with Safety Manager, other Managers and dispensary staff to handle safety concerns
- Interfaces with local law enforcement and security agencies as situations require
- Communicates to any and all staff clearly via BPG radio in accordance with BPG’s policies
- Documents any irregularity, incident, or emergency actions concerning safety and security, completing all required paperwork
- Monitors deliveries and removal of items from company premises
- Follows health, safety and sanitation guidelines
- Complies with BPG’s dress code requirements
- Perform Receptionist duties when necessary
- Assists and facilitates opening and closing responsibilities
- Must be flexible and able to be scheduled as needed, including mornings, nights, weekends and holidays
- Assists in maintaining facilities throughout the day, including cleaning of bathrooms
- Other tasks as assigned by the Safety Manager
Education and Experience
- HIgh School Diploma or GED
- California Certified Security Guard card
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Ability to provide exceptional customer service
- Ability to calmly handle emergencies
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
- Strong data entry skills; ability to type quickly and accurately
- Attentive to details

Physical Demands
- Regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel
- Required to walk, sit, talk, and hear
- Ability to sit and or stand for periods up to four hours at a time
- Occasionally required to stand, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
- Occasionally required to lift and/or move objects up to 40 pounds
- Expected to possess the specific vision abilities required by this job, which include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
