What are the responsibilities and job description for the Sustainability Coordinator position at Berkeley Student Cooperative?
DUTIES :
The Sustainability Coordinator helps reduce the BSC’s environmental impact through conservation, resource efficiency, education, and other innovative projects. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, maintaining a BSC Sustainability wiki or website as an online resource, participating in manager training and new member orientation each semester, conducting annual inter-house energy competitions, updating and expanding the sustainability assessment for the BSC, especially through conducting energy audits and / or audit reviews, promoting green building practices with capital improvements, especially through recommendations to CFCom about sustainability in HAPs and BAPs projects, working to reduce energy costs through rebates and other city / state / federal programs, and providing continuity and transparency of information by meeting regularly with other members, executives and staff, and holding regularly scheduled office hours.
REQUIREMENTS : Familiarity and experience with issues regarding sustainability including energy, water, food, transportation, and sustainable purchasing. Familiarity with practical applications for sustainable practices in homes and offices. S / he must have excellent abilities to work independently : to initiate and follow through on projects; to work well with people; and have good communication skills, both oral & written. Familiarity with the following is recommended but not required : energy, water, or other environmental reports / audits; LEED and / or green building practices; BSC policies & procedures. You cannot be a member of the Board of Directors and hold a Central Level job. You must be a BSC member and meet student eligibility guidelines to hold this position.
HOURS / CREDIT : This is a 9-hour / week position, compensated with a rent credit stipend at workshift rate for 4 hours / week and fulfilling your five-hours / week workshift requirement. Apartment dwellers and summer residents will receive an additional rent credit stipend for the five workshift hours, as this job does not replace the workshift requirement in these instances. If for whatever reason this job begins mid-semester, the stipend will be prorated. This job is eligible for work-study compensation.
