In order to participate in Berklee Student Employment, a student must fulfill the following requirements :

  • Current student at Berklee College of Music or Boston Conservatory at Berklee.
  • Enrolled at least half-time in a degree, diploma, or certificate-seeking undergraduate or graduate program. Summer is the only semester in which a student can maintain employment without being enrolled. In this case, the student must be pre-registered for the upcoming fall semester. This exception does not apply to fall or spring semesters.
  • Have a valid United States Social Security Number (SSN).
  • Remain in "valid" Visa status as applicable.
  • A minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA. Students in their first semester can work, even though they do not have an official GPA until the completion of their first semester.
  • Federal Work Study student may apply.
  • In good disciplinary standing.
  • Must be located in the U.S.

BCB Voice Department Communications Assistant has a high level of responsibility, a broad scope, and requires specialized technical skills. Students with strong design skills including knowledge of design principles, familiar with HTML and CSS, responsive design, cross-platform testing, professional design software (Adobe CC), Mailchimp, and Google Forms, are strongly encouraged to apply. The Communications Assistant should be responsible, proactive, able to take initiative and direction, patient, courteous and troubleshoot effectively. The ideal candidate will also be familiar with the Boston Conservatory at Berklee Voice Department events, offerings and community stakeholders.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities :

  • The Communications Assistant is responsible for designing and sending weekly email newsletters to the entire Voice Department community and biweekly newsletters to the Voice Faculty. The community-wide newsletters play an important role in shaping the culture of the department, facilitating the Chair's communication with the student body, faculty, and staff. To ensure events are well-attended and students are aware of important matters such as course registration, it is essential that the information in the newsletters be accurate and clearly presented.
  • The Communications Assistant creates graphics, posters, and other advertising materials as requested by the office of the Chair, which are used in public-facing contexts such as social media. The Voice Assistant therefore assists in presenting the to the general public, which could include prospective students, donors, and industry leaders.
  • To assist with audio, computer, and video set-ups and troubleshoot in classrooms and for special events and gatherings
  • To assist the office of the Chair with copying and printing tasks, as well as accessibility issues including daily room set-up to allow access. This will involve moving chairs, music stands blocking entry into rooms, hooking up loose cords and cables etc.
  • To monitor and respond to select department emails associated with assigned tasks
  • To alphabetize, file, copy, scan, proofread, post schedules, and other general clerical assistance
  • To assist faculty, staff, students, and visitors as needed
  • Required Skills and Knowledge

  • Strong Organizational and Time Management Skills - ability to independently complete multiple tasks while maintaining quality and attention to detail
  • Strong set of IT skills required. The Voice Assistant has to build and test email newsletters with rich content that displays correctly across different devices and email clients. This requires competencies including but not limited to : HTML and CSS, responsive design, cross-platform testing, professional design software (Adobe CC), Mailchimp, and Google Forms.
  • Strong design skills, including knowledge of design principles (typography, color theory, hierarchy), the ability to adhere to brand standards, and making aesthetic judgments with minimal guidance. These are skills that a student employee with no prior design experience cannot simply pick up on the job, but must already be cultivated prior to starting.
  • Strong writing skills. The employee will often be asked to write short announcement drafts for approval by the chair, for dissemination to the department.
  • The ability to transition seamlessly from student to employee to best assist the College's faculty, staff, students and visitors.
  • The ability to work as a team member and take direction on tasks and projects
  • Positive attitude and focus on customer service.
