Responsibilities

The Underwriter is a cross functional role that will work closely with the RVP’s, AVP’s and Territory Managers. Apart of a newly formed Operating Unit of W.R. Berkley, the role is part of an agile team that is focused on learning, collaboration and business driven behaviors. The Underwriting is responsible for handling a wide variety of duties primarily centered on new business and renewal underwriting while contributing to the development and maintenance of an agency relationships. The role takes part in shared responsibilities while also having an assigned area of expertise.

 

Duties include but are not limited to:• Working with other team members, assist in the design, administration, and delivery of training programs as related to agency appointments/terminations and agency/ producer licensing.  • Support staff in the execution of the department’s strategies and key initiatives through special projects as assigned.• Responds to inquiries from agents and marketing staff regarding submissions, agency contracts, agency mergers and transfers, and licensing of new producers.  Handles the inquiry or forwards to the appropriate staff member for resolution.  • Leverage industry leading analytics, product knowledge and superior customer service to establish BMP as the go to market for designed territory. • Communicates often and clearly with constituents in all regions on the status and execution of submissions, agency agreements in their respective territories.• Embraces relevant technology and actively improves skillset through formal and informal learning.  Works closely with Agency Licensing Coordinator and other Berkley companies to acquire skills in best practices.• Evaluates, troubleshoots and removes obstacles to the onboarding experience within the agency management system and Grove users.Other Responsibilities:• Underwriting, quoting, issuing and servicing of new and renewal business as needed while adhering to underwriting strategies and authority.• Process mid-term policy changes as needed• Communicates regularly with Agents and fosters positive agency relationships.• Responsible for maintaining complete electronic file integrity for new and renewal business on each account• Serves as a resource for new and innovative ideas to continually challenge the status quo

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree required or a combination of education and experience.

• Experience contributing on a high performing marketing/ sales team in a high growth, fast paced environment• Minimum of 5 years of underwriting experience  • Base product knowledge within the Management Liability suite of products (D&O, Cyber, EPL, Crime, Fiduciary, and MPL)• Empathy and understanding of the needs of our independent agents.  Will be an advocate for Berkley Management Protection customers and as such, will be passionate about their brand experience.  • An agile team player with strong written and verbal communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills  • Demonstrated ability to self-organize, prioritize and request help when needed• Execution-oriented with attention to details driven by natural curiosity and competitive spiritThe Company is an equal employment opportunity employer.
