Berkshire County Head Start seeks a Director of Health and Safety to join our Senior Leadership team. This role is responsible for ensuring the health, safety and well being of all students, staff, and visitors across all of our six locations. The Director of Health and Safety oversees the School Nurse, Maintenance Department, and Transportation Services.
This role involves strategic planning, implementing safety protocols, and fostering a sense of inclusivity, equity, and continuous improvement in health and safety practices. The Director of Health and Safety must ensure compliance with Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care (EEC) regulations, Head Start Performance Standards, and all local, state, and federal laws.
Education
- Bachelors degree in Public Health, Business Administration, or related field required. Masters Degree and current MA Registered Nursing license preferred.
Experience
- Minimum of three years experience in a pediatric care setting.
- Minimum of five years' management or related experience.
- Previous experience working with young children, preferably in an early childhood education setting.
Skills and Abilities
- Advanced knowledge of Head Start Program Performance Standards and MA EEC requirements regarding health and safety in early care and education.
- Background in health management preferred.
- Maintains knowledge of research-based interventions that support family well-being.
- Ability to find and use appropriate sources of evidence based or science informed health and safety information.
- Demonstrated leadership and advocacy, particularly as it relates to ensuring that program initiatives are aligned and available to meet health needs of children and families.
- Bilingual preferred, especially in Spanish, Portuguese, and/or Haitian Creole
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Patience, creativity, and a passion for working with children.
- Basic knowledge of child development and early childhood education principals.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical guidelines.
- Cultural competency and sensitivity to diverse populations and perspectives.
- Commitment to promoting equity, inclusion, and social justice.
Salary : $79,000 - $95,000
