We are seeking a Head of Operations to lead a team in our Commercial Lines Underwriting Operations Department. As the Head of Operations, you’d lead and direct the overall underwriting operations functions including, but not limited to endorsements, renewals, audits, cancellations, loss control, referrals, and compliance with regulations. This includes overseeing a policy services department that carriers out Underwriting assistant administrative tasks.
The successful applicant will be able to lead and motivate team members. Have a proven track record in the delivery of Underwriting Operations functions, ensuring high standards are maintained in provision of service and delivery of processing activities.
Job Responsibilities
- Manage the performance of the Underwriting Operations function, ensuring that all tasks are carried out on a timely basis and are of consistently high quality.
- Identify trends and opportunities within the department and present information to senior management.
- Develop, implement, and maintain underwriting processes and procedures.
- Identify areas for improvement in underwriting operations and implementing process changes.
- Acting as a key point of contact for Underwriting/Operations matters.
- Effectively work with other members of the biBerk Leadership team.
- Advocate compliance with insurance laws, rules, and regulations, assisting in the resolution of bureau criticisms and complaints.
- Supervisory responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training; planning, assigning and directing work; evaluating performance, rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
- Ensure underwriting quality and profitability through thorough analysis of risk exposure consistent with company appetite.
- Contribute to and foster a results-oriented culture that drives business growth and a delightful customer experience.
- Flexibility to adapt in a constantly changing start-up environment, including changes to technology, underwriting guidelines and appetite, compliance and regulation considerations, business strategies and corporate standards.
- Partially remote role – in person 2 days a week and remote 3 days a week.
- Overnight Travel 4-6 times per year
Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Willingness to roll up sleeves and multi-task towards an elevated customer experience.
- Proven analytical skills with the ability to operate with ambiguity and escalate items as necessary.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with special attention to detail.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with co-workers within the underwriting department and other internal departments.
- Self-starter, capable of learning new skills and technologies in a rapidly changing environment.
- Capability to work independently and within a team/group environment.
- Excellent computer skills – Microsoft Office Suite with emphasis on Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree is required.
- Minimum 7 years of underwriting Property & Casualty Insurance experience.
- Prior supervision experience required.
- Relevant experience in Underwriting Operations functions is a plus.
- Insurance Designation is a plus.

In accordance with pay transparency laws and regulations, the following good faith compensation range estimate is being provided. The salary range for this position is $90,000 to $130,000 per year. Final compensation will be based on candidate qualifications, geographic location, and other considerations permitted by law.
