Position Summary
A Utility Worker/ Cleaner’s essential functions are to provide for the safe and efficient operation of the Berkshire Regional Transit Authority through proper and required cleaning and fueling of transit service vehicles, as well as generally provide for the cleanliness or appearance of other Transit Authority property. This position is subject to drug and alcohol testing, including random testing, under Federal Transit Administration (FTA) drug and alcohol regulations.
Applicants with a Class A CDL, but whom lack the necessary Passenger Endorsement must be in possession of a Massachusetts CDL Passenger “P” Endorsement Permit. This paid training is also available.
Don’t have a Commercial Driver’s License? No problem! Paid CDL Class B training is available.
BTM accepts and encourages applications from individual’s who do not have a CDL License. Applicants without a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) must be in possession of a valid CDL Permit with Passenger “P” Endorsement, and without an Air-Brake Restriction.
Primary Responsibilities
- Operate the fuel station safely, professionally, and according to all Company guidelines
- Fuel, wash, dust, and otherwise clean Company vehicles daily
- Check all vehicle fluid levels and fill to a proper level according to Company guidelines
- Power wash or steam the engine and chassis components of vehicles
- Maintain proper fuel, fluid, and cleaning logs in accordance with Company guidelines
- Attend Road Calls with Mechanics to help with fluid spills or other accident damage
- Clean the interior and exterior of vehicles, waxing periodically
- Interact well with others and adhered to all company rules and policies.
- Maintain supplies on the service truck so that it may be ready at all times for snow removal, fluid spills by loading and unloading bags of speedy dry, ice melt, shovels and other equipment needed for these tasks.
- Empty all trashcans and wastebaskets into dumpster when full
- Help with changing buses when breakdowns accrue, pick up supplies when needed
- Perform building janitorial duties such as sweeping, mopping, dusting, floor waxing, emptying all trashcans/waste baskets and window washing.
- Conducts general building and grounds repairs, painting, lawn mowing and raking, weed eating, tree and hedge trimming, light bulb replacement, etc.
- Clean and maintain all bus shelters and bus stops for year-round accessibility for customers, snow plowing etc.
- Reliable and consistent on-time attendance for shifts, as scheduled or otherwise assigned.
- Assist with other building and maintenance duties as required.
- Other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements
Applicants must:
- At a minimum, possess a high school diploma or graduate equivalency degree (GED) or demonstrate a sum of experience equal to either degree.
- Demonstrate working knowledge of modern office computer systems, such as the Microsoft Office products.
- Have reliable transportation both to and from work.
- Pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test and DOT physical
- Pass a pre-employment DOT physical.
- Maintain a DOT medical card.
- Have working knowledge of basic math, map reading, diagram reading, and time telling.
- Be able to multitask while working with others, efficiently.
- Possess a CDL, with a Passenger Endorsement, and without an Air Brakes Restriction.
- Be eligible to be insured under Berkshire Transit Management, Inc.’s insurance policy for duration of employment
- Be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Demonstrate a minimum of (1) year maintenance experience, but not required;
- Demonstrate experience working in a vehicle repair and maintenance facility, but not required;
- Demonstrate at least one (1) year of buildings and grounds maintenance experience, but not required;
