Job Summary- Under the supervision of the Multi-Site Director, the Employment Training Job Developer supports the community in job searching and placement. Establishes and maintains working relationships with employers, industry organizations, and public agencies to source opening and secure employment and vocational training opportunities for clients. As a job Developer you will evaluate an individual's background, skills, and interests to match to potential job openings or training programs.
The Organization- Bernal Heights Neighborhood Center (BHNC) is a non-profit community based multi-service agency founded in 1978. Our mission is “…to preserve and enhance the ethnic, cultural, and economic diversity of Bernal Heights and surrounding neighborhoods. We promote community action to build a just and equitable community for all. BHNC focuses on the needs of people with low and moderate incomes. We work to accomplish our mission by :
Developing affordable housing throughout San Francisco;
Providing linguistically and culturally responsive services to our community’s most vulnerable adults, seniors, youth, and their families;
Developing leaders; organizing and empowering our tenants, clients, members, and allies to advocate for their needs and for the needs of the community.”
BHNC has five key program areas to meet this mission : Housing Development and Rehabilitation, Senior Programs, Youth Programs, Employment Programs and Community Organizing. We serve a thousand youth, adults and seniors annually from our offices in Bernal Heights and the Excelsior. Our programs raise funds from the public sector, housing development and management, foundations, local businesses and individuals.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES-
Provide professional job readiness training, pre-screening, and job placement to clients who may be disadvantaged or disabled.
Provide group orientations, informing sessions, or other employment workshops.
Provide vocational counseling and related career and employment services to participants.
Maintains currency with industry trends; updates labor market information by researching online resources, attending meetings, and networking with professional / community organizations that are involved in job placement / training activities.
Collects data from employers related to job orders, including job requirements and skills; Matches job skills with applicant qualifications
Build trust with residents and be an active listener and effective problem-solving of emerging issues.
Conduct client intake, income verification, and enroll in the program to receive services.
Complete assessments and identify the client's immediate and ongoing needs
Provide information and referral for services designed to address client needs and to create sustainability
Follow up with all client intakes within two weeks to ensure proper connections
Provide tenant engagement to include one-on-one meetings, focus groups, workshops, and group activities
Conduct regular outreach to increase and improve tenant engagement through phone calls, flyering, door knocking, and emails
Attend all regular BHNC and site meetings such as Staff meetings, tenant retention, tenant council, monthly resident meeting, and resident and vendor interventions
Administrative tasks, including updating client file updates, drafting department procedures etc.
Contribute and support workplan and playbooks associated with events and activities on site
Facilitate workshops and events
Collaborate with other non-profits, vendors, and colleagues
Must be available for some evening and weekend events (create tenant activities and events to accrue at various times of the day, including some morning, afternoon, evenings, and weekends)
Participate in BHNC community-wide efforts and events, including the annual membership drive, Fiesta on the Hill Street fair, and BHNC’s annual Community Congress.
KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS REQUIRED-
Experience working with San Francisco employers, training programs and employment resources
Strong problem-solving and group work leadership skills.
Experience working with people of various social, ethnic, cultural, linguistic, religious, economic and educational backgrounds.
Must be comfortable doing presentations and facilitating meetings in person and virtually.
Must be detail-oriented and organized with strong computer skills (MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint) and experience using social media platforms as community organizing tools.
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Ability to work flexible hours, evenings, and weekends.
Dedication to social action, social justice, civic engagement and leadership development.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS-
Experience or familiarity with the Bernal Heights / Excelsior neighborhoods and San Francisco.
2-3 years of experience providing employment-related services to clients via case management and job development
Experience working in affordable housing communities.
Bilingual in Spanish, Tagalog, Mandarin, or Cantonese (Not required)
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS : Requires frequent sitting, typing and computer use
- occasionally requires pushing and / or pulling objects, walk up and down stairs and / or hills, lifting and / or carrying up to 25 lbs.
- requires the ability to frequently move about or remain seated depending on the task at hand.
This full-time, non-exempt position includes a competitive salary based on experience with employee paid benefits that include medical, dental, life, EAP, generous paid time off, and holidays, paid lunch, monthly cell phone stipend and more. Must be able to work 9 to 5pm Monday through Friday with occasional evening and weekend hours. BHNC is an at will and equal opportunity employer.
