Classification will oversee maintenance and repair of all existing storm drain infrastructure and Bernalillo County Storm Drainage facilities. Also perform routine and general maintenance on all assigned locations including installation and maintenance of storm drain culvert and conveyances. Oversee lead control and data acquisitions telemetry systems for County lift stations, buildings, and properties.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Oversee and coordinate the routine maintenance of various storm sewer drain lines including manholes, water quality sites outfall, drop inlets, catch basins, Infiltrators, lift stations retention, and detention ponds. Evaluate maintenance requests plus troubleshoot and diagnose problems. Estimate time and materials required to complete jobs. 2. Oversee the scheduling and planning of work orders assigned to Storm Drain staff to maintain accurate logs of work performed. Instruct and train staff on daily operations, repair or replacement of sump pumps and storm pumps systems ensuring that all work is completed in compliance with current codes, manufacturer’s instructions, safety standards and industry practices. 3. Identify and plan work to be performed by contractors. Obtain cost estimates and follow established procurement procedures. Provide technical assistance in new construction design. 4. Establish preventative maintenance schedules according to manufacturer’s recommendations and automated Supervisory Control and Data Acquisitions (SCADA) systems. Ensure necessary work is performed based on reports and alarms to restore systems to normal operations. Responsible for daily adjustments, comfort limits and equipment start and stop times. 5. Provide technical direction and on-the-job training to storm drain staff and controls of the Multismart systems. 6. Provide technical support and direction on the general use of heavy equipment and its different application areas of usage. Troubleshoot and diagnose any mechanical faults to equipment. 7. Maintain various reports, monitor budget/expenditures, and ensure accurate timekeeping. 8. Respond to emergencies during normal shift and after hours and take corrective action to ensure systems are in operation. 9. Provide input to performance evaluations, recommend new hires, and advise management of disciplinary concerns. 10. Will be the on-call coordinator, and address after hour callouts and emergencies for the Storm Drain Maintenance Program. 11. Respond, mark, and clear all Bernalillo County Utilities (BECU), NM811 standard and emergency one call in accordance with State statue Chapter 62 Article 14 NMSA 1978 Excavation law. 12. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor’s Degree in Natural Resources Engineering Technology or related field, and five (5) years of work experience in maintaining Water/Wastewater collections and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisitions (SCADA) related systems (to include Multi Smart control/efficient management systems. Any equivalent combination of related education and/or work experience may be considered for the above requirements. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS The offer of this Bernalillo County position requires compliance with the following: 1. Employee must successfully complete the post-offer employment medical examination. 2. Employee must comply with the safety guidelines of the County. 3. Employee must have a valid New Mexico Class A, must include Tanker’s, Doubles and Triples endorsement Commercial driver’s license, and maintain a valid NM Class A Commercial driver’s license while employed in this position. 4. Required Wastewater Certificate upon hire. Water 2 certification preferred. 5. Required OSHA 10- or 30-hour certificate. 6. Incumbent will have one (1) year from date of hire to obtain a certification of the Curriculums of Operations from the Vactor Manufacture. WORKING CONDITIONS 1. Performs work both indoors and outdoors, and is exposed to extremes of heat, cold, and humidity. 2. Must be available for Standby/On call after hours and weekends and holidays. 3. Works in extreme weather conditions as required. 4. Worker is exposed to intermittent noise and vibration factors. 5. Worker will be “on-call” on a rotating basis and may also be on call for emergencies and work at any hour. 6. Work is performed on hard surfaces, in occasionally wet conditions. 7. Work hazards include steam, climbing of ladders, catwalks; entry into crawlspaces; operation of a county vehicle; risk of lacerations, burns, contusions and other injuries; and exposure to high pressure fluids and gases. EQUIPMENT, TOOLS, AND MATERIALS 1. Utilizes county vehicle, telephone, and laptop. 2. Utilizes common Storm Drain tools including (but not limited to): wrenches, concrete tools, forming equipment, brazing, welding torch, electrical testing equipment, saws, hand tools, power tools, ladders, and other customary equipment. 3. Acids, solvents, lead soldering flux, pipe thread lubricants and sealants. 4. Safety equipment may include safety goggles, masks, hardhat, and rubber boots.
