Bernard Building Center is a privately owned, 4-location lumberyard and home center. We are the largest independent lumber dealer in N.E. Michigan, we have proudly served the building and remodeling industry for over 60 years.

Job Summary
To manage, train, hire, and recruit employees. Operate efficiently, be profitable, control expenses, protect company assets, pursue growth, pursue new customers, retain and grow our current customer base.

Our business is split between contractor sales and DIY customers, we maintain a welcoming, helpful atmosphere for all customers. We believe strongly in serving both customer bases by providing quality products and fair pricing. We attribute our long-term success to both our reputation as an honest, reliable supplier, and the collective expertise of our sales team.
Bernard Building Center’s Cheboygan location employs approximately 15-20 team members. The majority of our staff are accomplished in the building trades. Several have held previous careers in contracting or construction before joining our team. We look to hire team members who are knowledgeable in our field. On occasion, we may also choose to develop that rare individual who is committed to a career in this field and willing to learn from experienced mentors.
Essential job skills:
· Supervise and manage all aspects of daily store and lumberyard operations.
· You will set the standard of success for our store.
· Hiring, marketing, and merchandising.
· Meet and exceed personal and store sales goals and standards of performance.
· Provide a fun, full-service experience for all customers.
· Train and develop a successful sales team.
· Empower your team to learn, grow and deliver through providing feedback, coaching, and accountability to all employees.
· Recruit, attract, and retain talented employees.
· Recognize talented staff and develop them for growth within the company.
· Conduct regular store meetings.
· Manage all aspects of loss prevention.
· Manage and plan staffing schedules.
· Resolve customer issues efficiently and timely.
· Understand Bernard Building Center values, and demonstrate them to the team.
· Overall leadership of running the store and lumberyard, additional responsibilities as needed or assigned.
This is a Full-Time Position.
The General Manager opening offers year-round employment, flexible hours, and a benefits package. This is a salary plus commission position. Commission is based on a percentage of GP of the Hale location. Availability of health, life, dental, optical, AFLAC, and short-term disability insurance, as well as 401k with company match.
Qualifications Required
Positive, personable, team-oriented attitude
Managerial experience and talented mediation skills
Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail
Familiarity with building materials and building practices
Computer literacy
High school diploma or equivalent
Valid driver’s license
Reliable transportation
Preferred Attributes
Retail experience, particularly in a home center, lumberyard or hardware store setting
Experience in building or construction industries
Knowledge of OSHA Laws

Pay: $60,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
