Bernstein Shur, a New England-based law firm that advises clients across the U.S. and around the world, is seeking an energetic and business-minded marketing professional to join our Office of Business Development, Marketing & Communications as the Marketing and Communications Manager (“the Manager”) to work in its Portland, Maine office.
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Manager works closely with the Director of Marketing & Business Development and is responsible for implementing the strategy for firmwide marketing and communications to external and internal audiences and stakeholders to help drive revenue growth. The Manager is key to championing and maintaining the firm brand in all aspects of communications and marketing.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE
- Execute upon strategic and comprehensive marketing and communications plan as directed by the Director of Marketing & Business Development to support the firm, various practice and industry groups, and individual attorneys.
- Manage the firm’s external communications editorial calendar and strategy, including the management of social media accounts.
- Manage content for firm website, including creating content and coordinating attorney and consultant headshots.
- Ensure public relations activities are in alignment with firm goals and position the firm, its practices, and its lawyers as thought leaders, particularly in key industries. Proactively identify and facilitate opportunities in media relations, organizations, and associations to increase brand awareness in target markets.
- Write press releases, announcements, and pitches to mainstream media outlets and targeted industry publications; write social media copy. Partner with attorneys to support with drafting thought leadership pieces.
- In partnership with Director of Marketing & Business Development, direct development and execution of client communication programs including newsletters, client advisories, digital marketing strategies and interactive campaigns, including content approval management.
- Stay current on market and business trends, the competitive landscape, client alert-worthy news, and the lawyers’ experiences and client relationships.
- Oversee internal communications processes and platforms, calendar, and execution, including supporting senior leadership communications and overseeing posting on the firm’s Intranet site to propel employee engagement.
- Manage marketing collateral projects, including partnering with and guiding attorneys and consultants on strategy and objectives for each project, drafting copy and managing approvals, and partnering with graphic designer to put it in design.
- Manage firm swag inventory in partnership with Marketing Coordinator.
- Support Director of Marketing & Business Development with projects to maintain and enhance the firm’s brand positioning.
- Plan and oversee advertising and promotion activities including events, print, online, electronic media and direct mail as well as promotional and collateral materials.
- Manage ongoing Google Advertising campaigns and relevant vendor relationship, monitoring for effectiveness and making recommendations to Director.
- Manage industry and charitable sponsorships. Make strategic recommendations on opportunities and act as owner of various opportunities and manage delegation of related logistics to Marketing Coordinator.
- Track and report key marketing and communications metrics, including those related to the firm’s website, social media, and public relations; recommend and monitor marketing spending and provide regular reports on results.
- Work collaboratively with the team to attract new and develop existing client relationships to support new business and to increase exposure and position attorneys across industry outlets in support of key business development priorities.
- Oversee marketing list management for the Client Relationship Management (CRM) system, including training at all levels of the firm.
- Support team with events as needed, including consulting on event communications for major firm events. Act as firm photographer as needed.
DESIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree required, with 5 years of proven marketing and communications work experience, preferably in a law firm or professional services environment.
- Creative and organized strategist with ability to adapt in the moment.
- Exceptionally strong interpersonal, written, presentation and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with quick turn-around time and high expectations for attention to detail and quality of work product, while managing multiple, often competing, priorities.
- Must possess outstanding commitment to providing excellent client service and the highest quality work product, be self-motivated, responsive, and a team player.
- Ability to partner with attorneys and develop consultative role/advisory relationship, including the ability to influence.
- Ability to operationalize a plan that includes attention to detail and the ability to execute through to completion.
- Strong analytical abilities to study industry and market trends, data, and client financials.
- Ability to work productively as part of a diverse team embodying varying communications styles.
- Solid computer skills, including proficiency in using CRM systems, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and social media platforms.
- Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, including InDesign, and Photoshop a plus.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a professional manner with colleagues at all levels of the firm and with firm clients.
- Ability to travel occasionally based on the needs of the position.
