What are the responsibilities and job description for the Outreach Coordinator position at Berrien County?
DUTIES:
- Maintains social media sites related to Berrien County Animal Services, such as Pet Finder, Facebook, and Instagram.
- Organizes adoption events, shot clinics, fundraisers, community outreach and educational opportunities.
- Works with the Kennel Supervisor to create and maintain animal bios.
- Supervises animal behavior assessments and implements animal behavior enrichment programs.
- Schedules meet-and-greets with potential adopters and counsels as to animal fit, adjustment time, etc.
- Conducts follow up after adoption.
- Recruits volunteers, organizes volunteer orientations, and directs volunteer activities.
- Arranges rescue transports.
- Assists with animal transfers and the completion of necessary documentation.
- Receives cross training in order to provide assistance and staff coverage when needed.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- High school diploma or equivalent and two years of experience working within a shelter environment.
- Customer service and or management experience preferred.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license with access to reliable transportation throughout the course of employment.
- A pre-employment physical, drug test, and background check are required prior to employment.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
- Clear understanding of the use of social media outlets.
- Vast knowledge and skill in the care, handling, and habits of companion animals.
- Personal initiative, with the ability to effectively plan and organize work.
- Able to handle critical and sensitive situations tactfully in a calm and professional manner.
- Capable of working in an environment with pet-related noises, animal feces and urine, and in an environment where euthanasia of animals occurs.
- Able to interact effectively with individuals with diverse social, economic, and cultural backgrounds as well as emotional pet owners.
- Familiar with the geography, streets, and principal locations within Berrien County.
