Berry Corporation (bry) has an opening for an Intern - Landman in our Dallas, Texas location, who will work within the Land Department focusing on developing knowledge, skills, and abilities as a Landman. Under supervision, this position will assist with management of land activities in assigned areas. This position will report to the Land Director and work directly with Landmen and Land Administration. The intern will also collaborate with other operational and administrative groups to assist Land Department with meeting the company’s business objectives. The intern will work full-time Monday through Thursday (9 hours) and Friday (4 hours) from May through August.
Key Accountabilities
- Learns and engages in fundamentals of petroleum land work.
- Actively participates in training and other on-the-job learning opportunities.
- Consistently seeks opportunities to assist and learn from Landmen, GIS and Land Administration.
- Assists in, or observes, all conventional aspects of petroleum land work.
- Works within established policies and procedures to help meet set schedules and system or program requirements.
- Assists with basic negotiations for oil and gas leases, contracts and rights of ways with landowners and counterparts at other companies for oil and gas and/or surface rights.
- Discusses with Landmen the ethics and effectiveness of certain negotiating strategies that could benefit the company.
- Assists with drafting and gains understanding of company compliance under basic and standard industry exploration and production agreements (joint operating agreements, farm-outs/farm-ins, pooling and unitization agreements, surface damage agreements, seismic options, rights of way, etc.).
- Supports Landmen and Land Administration in the maintenance of internal company land and accounting management systems and provides land support and critical information to ongoing development and maintenance of oil and gas properties and their related ownership.
- Researches and gathers ownership and operating data for Landmen, Land Administration, and senior management as required.
- Complies with all the Company’s Safety and Environmental policies, practices, and programs.
- Participates in and adheres to all training programs designed to enhance EH&S knowledge and safety standards.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education, Certificates, Licenses
- Currently pursuing a degree in Business or closely related field (Petroleum Land Management/Professional Land & Resource Management/Energy Management are preferred).
- Member of American Association of Professional Landmen (AAPL) a plus.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Critical:

- Proficient in Microsoft Office products and ability to effectively demonstrate proficiency with company databases, such as P2 Land and ArcGIS.

Required:
Intermediate application and knowledge of:
- Land descriptions and measurements.
- Map reading and interpretation.
- Elements of the oil and gas lease.
- File research, reading and understanding complicated agreements.
- Mathematical calculations used in petroleum land work.
- Basic Land titles (county records and chain of title).
- Basics of oil and gas law, including types of oil and gas interests and conveyances, execution, and recordation of title instruments.
- Negotiating strategies and theories.
- The elements of the joint operating agreement and other related well trades and support agreements.
- Competitor awareness and analysis, including early indications of changes in competitor strategy or upstream focus that may affect the company business writing and analysis.

Work Environment
- Primarily office work environment.
- Routine work involves common office activities during a typical 9-hour day such as standing, sitting, walking, typing, and twisting as necessary.
- May be required to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
- Must follow all company safety policies, including when visiting field locations.
