The Land Analyst is an integrated member of a fast-paced Land Department with frequent cross-functional collaboration with other departments, including Business Development and Accounting. Under limited supervision, assists and supports the Land Director and Landmen in their land and business development functional responsibilities and independently performs, with minimal supervision, complex lease analysis activities. Establishes and maintains lease records and contract data in the corporate Land system, ensures timely and accurate payment of leasehold and contract obligations, including rentals, and provides analytical and land technician duties for the Land Department. Mentors less experienced analysts and personnel, serving as a subject matter expert. Key Accountabilities

  • Maintains Land files and records in P2 Land (and digital copies, including related confidential information, in compliance with the Company’s Retention Policy and physical files).
  • Supports the Land Department with lease, contract, and data analysis.
  • Works independently with minimal supervision and properly prioritizes work duties.
  • Generates timely and accurate acreage reports and obligation calendars for review and recommendations from Land Department personnel.
  • Monitors required responses/recommendations and follows up with Land personnel to complete the calendar approval process within established monthly deadlines.
  • Publishes monthly calendars from the Land system to ensure timely handling of all rentals, obligations, and expirations.
  • Demonstrates strong working knowledge of land contracts/agreements and their impact on the Company’s requirements, obligations, and goals.
  • Coordinates with Accounts Payable to ensure obligation payments are processed accurately and on time.
  • Communicates as necessary with Federal, State, Indian, and other leasehold obligation payees to ensure accurate payment and protection of the Company’s assets, including all required details for UTE tribe.
  • Handles the physical mailing of all rental checks after internal processing and manages payment history files.
  • Prepares internal quarterly acreage reports, reconciling quarter-over-quarter movements.
  • Prepares the annual 10K acreage report and associated files and supports the Land Director in preparing and proofing data for 10K and other key reports.
  • Analyzes agreements, sets them up in the Land System, and manages updates.
  • Serves as the primary user representative for all P2 Land lease and contract-related issues.
  • Drafts, reviews, and revises land and business contracts, agreements, and letters for Landmen and the Land Director.
  • Provides proofing, notarization, and recording of land documents.
  • Performs land research.
  • Participates in audit reviews, providing supporting documentation and other input regarding the setup and maintenance of leases and contracts, generation and monitoring of obligation calendars, and comparison of check proofs and invoices.
  • Serves as a technical contributor within the department and is recognized by management, co-workers, and industry colleagues as a subject matter expert.
  • Mentors junior Land personnel and reviews LeaseData work completed by analysts and technicians for accuracy and compliance.
  • Provides support to the Land Director and Landmen as needed with special requests, training, and specialized reports.
  • Actively seeks ways to improve the efficiency of work processes and policies.
  • Maintains regular and consistently positive communication with all Company personnel.
  • Assumes a leadership role in data conversions, regression, and user acceptance testing required for system upgrades.
  • Complies with all Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) policies, practices, and programs of the Company and actively collaborates with operational and HSE teams to promote and provide a safe work environment.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Education, Certificates, Licenses

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required
  • Bachelor’s Degree in business or related field preferred
  • Active notary public license a plus
  • Paralegal certificate/experience a plus

 

Experience 

  • Minimum of six (6) years related Land Tech, Lease Analyst or other relevant land-related experience required.
  • Experience with land and lease regulations in California and/or Utah is a plus

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Critical:     

  • Advanced knowledge of land contracts and their impact on obligations, reporting requirements, acreage calculations, and asset development and retention.
  • Advanced analytical and mathematical skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as word processing, database management, file/record maintenance, and other office procedures.
  • Proficient in oil and gas contract and lease terms.
  • Proficient in research methods.
  • Oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated skill in drafting documents and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrates a positive attitude and support for Company goals and core values.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills.

Required:

  • Advanced experience with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, Outlook, Teams) and SharePoint.
  • Experience collaborating with other departments such as Legal and Accounting.
  • Advanced knowledge of land operations and administrative processes in the oil and gas industry.
  • Advanced knowledge of both ownership interest and acreage calculations.
  • Demonstrates high proficiency in establishing and maintaining lease and contract records within the corporate Land system.
  • Ability to quickly learn and efficiently use P2 Land software.
  • Proficient in proper identification of leasehold and contract obligations and in the payment of rentals, minimum royalties, ROWs, and all other land obligations.
  • Detailed knowledge of statutes and regulations affecting leasehold and contractual ownership and obligation payments.

Desired:

  • Experience with P2 Land, Enterprise Upstream software, and ArcGIS (or similar systems).
  • Experience with land and lease regulations in California and/or Utah.
  • Experience with ThoughtTrace or other AI-driven tools for land and legal document analysis.

 

Work Environment

  • Primarily office work environment.
  • Routine work involves common office activities during a typical 9-hour day such as standing, sitting, walking, typing, and twisting as necessary.
  • May be required to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Must follow all company safety policies, including when visiting field locations.
  • Travel required, on occasion.

The pay range for this position is between $74,880 and $88,920 annually based on a full-time schedule.  Please note that the annual salary information is a general guideline, and that annual salary will vary depending on your location and that Berry Corporation (“Berry”) will consider factors such as (but not limited to) scope of responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and business considers when extending an offer.  This position is eligible for short-term cash incentive bonus and long-term incentive awarded in restricted share units, excellent benefits including full health benefits, 401(k) with company match and immediate vesting, tuition reimbursement, 9/80 flex schedules, and generous paid time off.
