Position Summary

The Regulatory & Environmental Specialist provides moderate regulatory and environmental permitting compliance program support using regulatory knowledge and field experience. This role is responsible for daily regulatory and environmental program compliance, including ensuring the accuracy of reporting, scheduling, and supporting field inspections, surveys, and testing. Sometimes serves as HSE regulatory and environmental representative on projects and assignments that require a broad knowledge of regulatory impacts on business under general supervision and guidance. Key Accountabilities

  • Participates in field training, public workshops, and other on-the-job learning opportunities.
  • Assists in developing and implementing new permitting strategies and ideas to enhance operational flexibility and efficiencies to decrease expenses.
  • Assists in assessing and communicating to management pending legislation impacts on business.
  • Works with oil and gas lobbyist groups supporting rulemaking and new legislation cost impact analysis.
  • Assists with coordination of job tasks and supervision of regulatory/environmental consultants and contractors to support key regulatory/environmental programs to ensure timely and accurate compliance reporting.
  • Develops and maintains an environmental management system to track compliance obligations and deadlines.
  • Prepares detailed environmental and regulatory compliance reports for internal stakeholders and external agencies.
  • Identifies opportunities for process improvements to enhance compliance efficiency and reduce costs.
  • Acts as the primary contact for routine and unannounced regulatory agency audits and inspections.
  • Assists with internal audits to verify compliance with company policies and applicable regulations.
  • Provides subject matter expertise to cross-functional teams working on high-visibility projects involving regulatory and environmental components.
  • Leads small-scale initiatives aimed at improving environmental performance, such as waste reduction or energy efficiency programs.
  • Collaborates across functional departments to support the oil and gas well-permitting process for private, state, and federal lands.
  • Works within established policies and procedures to help meet set schedules and system or program requirements.
  • Seeks additional classes and/or certifications within the area of specialty that could enhance work knowledge and capabilities.
  • Occasionally mentors, guides, or directs less experienced HSE staff.
  • Observes the development of recommendations for complex issues.
  • Assists in the prioritization of preliminary adaptations and modifications.
  • Complies with all the Company's HSE policies, practices, and programs. Takes corrective action within training limitations. Escalates as necessary.
  • Participates in and adheres to all training programs designed to enhance HSE knowledge, safety standards, and improve job performance.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

         

        Education, Certificates, Licenses

        • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
        • Associate's Degree in biology, chemistry or environmental science-related discipline or relevant field experience preferred.
        • Professional Certification preferred.
        • Valid Driver's License required.

        Experience

        • 3-6 years of relevant experience in oil and gas exploration and production.

         

        Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

        Critical:

        • Knowledge of oil and gas well-permitting processes for private, state, and federal lands.
        • Knowledge and application of fundamental regulatory and environmental permitting and compliance.
        • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment to produce results.
        • Demonstrated ability to think analytically and solve complex problems.
        • Knowledge of basic oil and gas field operations.
        • Knowledge of key regulatory and environmental agency stakeholders.
        • Time management and prioritization skills.
        • Ability to learn while observing and supporting other, more experienced regulatory and environmental professionals.
        • Communication skills, both verbally and in writing.

           

          Required:

          • Proficient with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint.
          • Basic knowledge of some oil and gas software.
          • Ability to think analytically and solve complex problems.
          • Working knowledge of standard techniques, modifications, and extensions of engineering theories, precepts, and field practices.
          • Ability to learn and interpret codes, regulations, and practices and understand and communicate impacts to stakeholders.

           

            Desired:

            • Experience with leak detection and repair process
            • Experience with Title V air permitting and compliance
            • Experience with hazardous and non-hazardous waste management
            • Experience with regulatory agency technical correspondence

             

            Work Environment

            • Primarily office work environment.
            • Routine work involves common office activities during a typical 9-hour day such as standing, sitting, walking, typing, and twisting as necessary.
            • Occasional travel as required to out of state operations.
            • May be required to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
            • Must follow all company safety policies, including when visiting field locations.

             

            Compensation and Benefits 

            The pay range for this position is between $95,680 and $113,620 annually based on a full-time schedule.  Please note that the annual salary information is a general guideline, and that annual salary will vary depending on your location and that Berry Corporation (“Berry”) will consider factors such as (but not limited to) scope of responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and business considers when extending an offer.  This position is eligible for short-term cash incentive bonus and long-term incentive awarded in restricted share units, excellent benefits including full health benefits, 401(k) with company match and immediate vesting, tuition reimbursement, 9/80 flex schedules, and generous paid time off.
