Position Description
POSITION TITLE: Coordinator of English as a Second Language
FLSA: Exempt
QUALIFICATIONS:
Proficient in instructional strategies related to ESOL
Certified ESOL teacher
Minimum of 5 years teaching experience
Effective Communication Skills
Effective Organizational Skills
REPORTS TO: Superintendent
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Schedule and promote ESL parent meetings, social events, etc.

Coordinate curriculum writing with ESL teachers and Direct of Curriculum Development.

Create bi-monthly ESL newsletters.

Meet with ESL teachers on a regular basis before/after school.

Develop materials, as appropriate (e.g. regarding cultural information of students).

Recommend translators to Human Resources for appropriate employment .

Maintain and distribute a current list of approved translators to ESL Staff.

Coordinate the scheduling of students with the administration, counseling departments, and ESL teachers.

Make recommendations to Director of Research, Evaluation and Assessment of students requiring modifications/exemptions of students for standardized testing.

Coordinate in-service/staff development opportunities.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

Maintain inventory of equipment.

Coordinate visitations to district.

Attend local, regional and state meetings to remain current on legislative and best practices.

Oversee the maintenance of files of former and current students.

Submit student scheduling of ESL teachers to Superintendent for approval.

Serve as a resource to ESL teachers for questions, concerns, future planning, grants, etc.

Other duties as assigned.
