Pay is commensurate with experience within a range of $18.75 - $21.50 per hour. Full time, non-exempt, benefits eligible. Responsibilities and Duties: The primary responsibility of the Insurance Specialist will be to obtain all financial and demographic information at the time of a client's admission to the Center. Specific duties will include (but not limited to):
- Contacting third party payers to verify benefits and level of coverage;
- Obtaining any authorization or pre-certification as needed of intake and or other services if offered;
- Meeting with clients who present for intake, completing paperwork, entering clinical /demographic information into the computer
- Backing up Access Center Case Coordinator clerical duties as needed;
- Communication with Accounts Receivable staff regarding questions about insurance, when directed by Team Leader;
- Ensure that all the demographic fields and those that are necessary for billing the client are complete. The appropriate report will be checked daily and this position will follow up with other staff for assistance.
- Enter authorizations for MCO's as assigned by the AR department and send them to medical records for scanning.
- Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of the job.
Qualifications include but not limited to:
- Attention to detail and accuracy a must and customer service oriented;
- Able to work Monday through Friday as scheduled;
- High school graduate or equivalent plus some experience in healthcare related clerical or billing procedures;
- Familiar with computer systems including MS Office and Outlook;
- Ability to be adept at maneuvering and dealing with insurance companies and contacts;
- Knowledge of insurance, Medicare and Medicaid billing practices;
- Knowledge of billing codes and their applications; and,
- Must be able to achieve within one's first 6 months of employment a working competency in the management and use of the Center's electronic medical records (EMR) software as demonstrated by timely and accurate documentation of the clinical record.
