Marketing & Social Media Specialist- SLC, Utah Temporary (1 year)

Location: Salt Lake City, Utah

Hiring Range: This position’s hiring range is anticipated to be $59,000-$64,000 depending on experience, plus great benefits!

This is a full-time temporary position that is expected to last 1 year from start date.

Manager interviews will begin the week March 17th (recruiter phone screens will take place prior to a manager interview).

The Marketing & Social Media Specialist position plays a direct role in achieving Best Friends Animal Society’s no-kill mission and goal by leading the research, development, execution, and analysis of marketing, advertising, and promotions, with a particular focus on social media strategy and engagement. This role is responsible for creating compelling content, managing campaigns, analyzing performance metrics, and driving audience growth across social platforms to amplify lifesaving efforts. Additionally, they support the planning and execution of virtual, hybrid, and in-person events to further Best Friends’ lifesaving programs and 2025 goal.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• You are responsible and accountable for the culture you add to your team dynamic. 

• Utilizing the Best Friends Brand and Style Guide, plan social media strategy, create content, and manage designated social media channels. Grow and increase followers, engagement, website visits, and drive conversions like adoptions, fosters, or donations etc.

• Assist in developing and execution of tactical marketing plans to reach more diverse communities (may include digital and traditional advertising, social media, guerilla and grassroots, coordination with PR, and additional tactics as identified). 

• Develop and steward relationships with local businesses, organizations and influencers. 

• Assist with all planning, logistics and execution of Best Friends events. 

• Assist in the gathering of details for post-event and post-promotion reports. 

• Field and respond to all marketing, social media and event inquiries in a professional and timely manner. 

• Manage and coordinate volunteer support for marketing, social and events needs in collaboration with the volunteer department and/or action team. 

• Communicate and work openly across the broader communications/outreach team, and programs, volunteer and action teams to maximize efficiency, reach and budgets. 

• Maintain local/regional websites and landing pages, social media channels and in-house collateral, adhering to brand voice and guidelines. 

• Assist, where needed, in press events and coverage, celebrity and influencer visits in collaboration with the PR and celebrity relations teams. 

• Work a flexible schedule that may include long hours near and during events or promos. 

• Maintain a safe workplace, valuing and modeling safe work practices, adhering to organizational safety practices and rules, and communicating about unsafe practices and conditions. 

Skills and Experience: 

• Must have prior professional experience creating content and managing social media/content platforms such as Facebook, Youtube, and Instagram for a company or non-profit organization with a proven ability to grow audience and increase engagement.

• Ability to research, develop and execute marketing plans and strategies. 

• Ability to work and clearly communicate across multiple internal teams and people at different levels in the organization. 

• Comfortable representing Best Friends with the public at events, in social media content and in occasional media appearances. 

• Exceptional communication skills, public speaking, and presentation experience with the ability to professionally advocate Best Friends’ position on issues; experience in supporting, engaging with, and developing relationships with volunteers and donors.

• Experience with paid and grassroots marketing campaigns, event coordination, and social media management is a bonus. 

• Ability to assist in strategy and content development to grow audience and engagement for social media channels in the Best Friends voice and within brand guidelines. 

• Other relevant skills include PR support, volunteer support, website content maintenance, Microsoft Office suite (including Teams). 

• Familiarity with Utah market when it comes to marketing, social media, TV, Radio, and media buying.

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office products; familiarity with social media management tools is preferred or a desire to learn, willing and comfortable learning new systems, including online information systems. 

• Excellent organizational and project leadership skills with proven ability to juggle the details while still seeing the big picture. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.

• Strong interpersonal skills, a collaborative worker, upbeat, energetic, tactful, and diplomatic, able to get along with people from different backgrounds, as well as the ability to handle sensitive and confidential situations.

• Bi-lingual or multi-lingual skills preferred, but not required. 

Physical Requirements: 

• Routinely lift 65 pounds and perform daily strenuous activity including, but not limited to lifting, carrying, reaching, stooping, squatting, cleaning, and bending. 

• Perform repetitive tasks for extended periods of time including typing, sitting, walking, arm, and hand motion. 

• Work indoors and outdoors in a variety of weather conditions including extreme heat and cold. 

• Daily exposure to dogs, cats and other animals of all sizes, temperaments, and medical status. 

• Must have a valid driver's license for at least 3 years, ability to qualify to be added to Best Friends insurance.

• Daily hours and days of the week may vary according to the needs of the department schedule; position includes weekends, nights work. 

• Ability to travel occasionally, including overnight stays, to support partner shelters and partner shelter staff in sustainable lifesaving work. Anticipated travel up to 10%.
