Junior Web Developer

We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Jr. Web Developer to join our growing team. As a Junior Web Developer, you will handle customer content update requests and troubleshoot incoming tickets related to WordPress websites. You should be proficient in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and PHP, and possess hands-on experience with popular WordPress page builders like Divi, Elementor, and WPBakery Page Builder. Additionally, familiarity with child themes and basic troubleshooting is required. This role is ideal for a candidate looking to grow their technical skills in a collaborative and supportive environment. You will also be involved in the full development lifecycle of some new website projects, from coding and testing to deployment and support, gaining valuable hands-on experience.  

Job Responsibilities: 

• Obsession with WordPress and open source technology 
• Development & Coding: Ability to write clean, efficient, and maintainable code for web applications, websites, and other digital tools. Work with technologies such as WordPress (Divi theme), HTML, CSS, JavaScript, React, Angular and popular frameworks.  
• Progressive Enhancement / Graceful Degradation 
• HTML and CSS Specifications (W3C / WHATWG) 
• UX / Usability 
• Cross-Browser / Cross-Platform Development 
• Website Speed / Performance 
• Collaboration: Work closely with the Director, Websites, designers, and project managers to ensure that development tasks are completed on time and align with project goals and client specifications. 
• Troubleshooting & Bug Fixes: Assist in debugging and resolving technical issues in both new and existing code. Ensure that bugs are addressed in a timely and effective manner. Debugging Tools (Firebug, etc) 
• Testing & Quality Assurance: Participate in testing and quality assurance processes, including unit testing, integration testing, and ensuring compatibility across browsers and devices. 
• Documentation: Maintain detailed documentation for code, processes, and solutions to support future development and ease of understanding for the team. Familiar with project templates including but not limited to use cases, requirements, test plans, test cases, etc. 
• Project Management: Update all project plans in a timely fashion using our systems. Be familiar with tools such as Asana, Jira and HubSpot. 
• Learning & Development: Continuously improve your programming skills by staying up-to-date with new technologies, frameworks, and industry trends. Seek mentorship and guidance from senior developers. 
• Support & Maintenance: Assist in maintaining and updating existing websites, fixing bugs, improving functionality, and ensuring website security and performance. 
• Version Control: Use version control tools (e.g., Git) to manage code changes and collaborate effectively with other developers on the team. 
• E-Commerce for Services companies: Assist in adding e-commerce functionality to client websites for service sales purposes. This includes coding the pages and connections to the client’s merchant provider. 

Experience: 

• Experience: 2-3 years of experience in web development or software development, including internships, personal projects, and working with other agencies. 
• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).   
• Technical Skills:   

 - Proficiency in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and PHP.   

  - Familiarity with front-end frameworks such as React, Angular, or Vue.js.   

 - Understanding of back-end technologies such as Node.js, PHP, or Python is a plus.   

 - Familiarity with databases (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL) and APIs is advantageous. 

• Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, with a passion for solving technical challenges. 
• Basic understanding of website performance optimization and SEO best practices. 
• Attention to Detail: Ability to write clean, efficient code and test it for quality assurance. 
• Communication: Good communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders. 
• Teamwork: Willingness to collaborate and learn from others in a team-oriented environment. 
• Time Management: Ability to manage time effectively and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment. 

Preferred Skills: 

• Version Control: Experience with Git or other version control systems. 
• CMS Experience: Familiarity with Content Management Systems (e.g., WordPress, Drupal) is a plus. 
• Experience with Advanced Custom Fields (ACF) and custom post types in WordPress. 
• Knowledge of WordPress security best practices. 
• Responsive Design: Understanding of responsive/adaptive design principles and experience developing for multiple devices and screen sizes. 
• Testing Frameworks: Knowledge of testing frameworks and tools like Jest, Mocha, or Cypress is a plus.
