Objective: The Controller will oversee accounting operations at BVS, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and the integrity of financial reporting. This role is responsible for closing the books, tax compliance, and cost accounting, while collaborating with leadership to improve financial processes and operational efficiency.
Responsibilities include:· Lead the month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timely reporting.
· Ensure compliance with GAAP, company policies, and applicable regulations.
· Oversee general ledger accuracy, account reconciliations, and variance analysis.
· Oversee tax compliance, including sales and use tax within the Avalara CertCapture system, as well as property tax, franchise tax, and associated filings.
· Oversee corporate credit card expenses and employee expense reimbursement program.
· Manage and support accounting staff including functions such as accounts payable and general accounting.
· Work closely with manufacturing, supply chain, and operational teams to offer financial guidance on cost control and efficiency improvements.
· Maintain standard costs for distributed and manufactured products, analyzing key labor, material, and overhead variances.
· Maintain and improve strong internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure accurate financial reporting.
· Evaluate, create and enhance accounting policies, procedures, and systems to optimize financial efficiency.
· Coordinate with external auditors and tax advisors to ensure compliance and support audits.
· Identify and suggest process improvements to enhance efficiency in financial operations.
· Support the budgeting and forecasting process, providing insights and recommendations for financial planning & analysis.
· Support strategic decision-making by providing financial analysis and insights to executive leadership.
· Perform special projects, ad hoc financial analysis and other duties as assigned by the finance leadership team.
· Other duties as assigned.
· Due to the nature of the business BVS financial team employees must consent to and have the ability to pass a pre-employment and annual federal level background check.
· Knowledge of GAAP, managerial accounting, and cost accounting principles.
· Strong proficiency in financial reporting and general ledger management.
· Strong Excel skills and experience with ERP systems; Sage X3 experience is a plus.
· Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
· Effective communication skills for working with various stakeholders.
· Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to change.
Education and Experience:
· Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
· CPA or CMA certification preferred but not required.
· Seven or more years of accounting experience, including two in a leadership role in a manufacturing or distribution setting.
· Public accounting experience is a plus.
· Capable of lifting 50 pounds on a regular basis.
· Able to work on foot for extended periods of time – up to 8-hour shifts.
· Physically capable of manual labor that includes lifting, bending, pushing, pulling, and reaching.
· Ability to travel on an as-needed basis.
