Description

Bethany Athletic Club, a premier athletic club in Portland’s west side seeks a Membership Manager to join the management team! The successful candidate will be responsible for establishing new group business and local accounts while maintaining strong trusted relationships with our current members. This individual will work closely with the Front Desk Attendants and our energetic management team to maximize revenues, ensuring the clubs continued success and profitability.  This position will be heavily focused on prospecting new member groups and maintaining current members at a very high level.  We are looking for an energetic, upbeat problem-solver who is able to multi-task in a fast-paced environment, meet strict deadlines, work in a fun office setting, communicate effectively with management ad provide superior customer service to our members and prospects. 

This is a full-time, exempt position. A typical schedule would be M-F, with varying hours. Evening and weekends may be needed on an occasional basis. 

Main Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the successful attainment of membership goals. 
  • Hire, train and develop a strong team who deliver on company goals and reflects it's values. 
  • Responsible for directly conducting and/or overseeing the training of all Front Desk staff according to the club's criteria.  Train and orient staff to do all job duties and procedures.

    Provide a consistent experience for potential members and guests cohesive with the values of Bethany Athletic Club and manage authorized specials, sales initiatives and marketing promotion campaigns.
  • Be a model leader for the Bethany Athletic Club to ensure high-level member and team member satisfaction by being passionate about inspiring and empowering our members to live fit and healthy lives.
  • Develop and implement sales policies and procedures for the Membership department, working with the other departments as needed. Participate with the other department leaders in creating and maintaining member retention programs.
  • Communicate with members and solicit membership feedback and offer new ideas for retention, improved customer service and new sales.
  • Promote good member relations and interclub member participation through one-on-one member interactions, retention programs and special presentations as well as through promotional materials, bulletin boards, etc.
  • Lead the corporate membership program, developing strategy and plans for community outreach and guerilla marketing.
  • Maintain relationships with existing members and prospects. Be available to members and respond to all concerns in a personal, pro-active and win-win manner.
  • Execute member engagement events and retention driven programs. 
  • Administrative tasks related to membership such as dues increases, audits, reporting, and KPI to ensure success of department. 
  • Other duties and various administrative tasks as assigned

Qualifications:

  • At minimum 2 years of management experience
  • At minimum 4 years of sales experience
  • Previous experience with account management and corporate sales; membership sales at a health club is considered an asset but not a requirement
  • Excellent management and leadership skills
  • A comprehensive understanding of sales operations and corporate membership metrics
  • Outstanding customer service skills
  • Ability to shift and manage multiple priorities
  • Must be a highly motivated, high-energy self-starter
  • Extremely professional and hard-working with exceptional organizational skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a strong ability to socialize well with members and customers
  • Strong proficiency using computer software, including Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Powerpoint), Email, Internet
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a results-driven focus and the ability to work through to completion in a timely manner
