The Bethany Public School District has an opening for a Spanish Teacher for the 2024-2025 school year.
Position Summary:
To provide an instructional program that will help students acquire the basic knowledge and skills necessary for the understanding and appreciation of the Spanish language and culture.
Reports to: Principal
Salary: $55,144 to $95,335, per Bethany Education Association contract
Benefits: Comprehensive health adn welfare benefits packege per Bethany Education Association contract.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Duties of this position include, but are not limited to:
- Develop and implement a Spanish program that aligns with Connecticut State Standards and District Curriculum.
- Develop student knowledge, understanding, and application of the Spanish curriculum.
- Develop student understanding and appreciation of Spanish and its relationship to other subject areas.
- Plan and deliver high-quality and rigorous lessons with clearly defined goals and objectives.
- Select a variety of materials and resources appropriate to the ages and skill levels of students.
- Plan a variety of engaging learning activities appropriate to the ages and skill levels of students.
- Determine individual and group needs and plan to differentiate accordingly.
- Evaluate student progress using multiple sources of assessment data.
- Assist students in the self-evaluation process.
- Encourage students to develop individual skills to the best of their ability.
- Communicate student progress effectively to students, parents, and other staff.
- Teach desirable work habits and encourage students to take pride in their accomplishments.
- Promote proper care of instructional equipment and materials.
- Liaison to administration, intervention team, and grade-level data teams for English Learners.
- Provide support of English Learners to grade-level data teams.
- Work closely with administration, curriculum coaches, and support staff on all areas related to ESL to promote monitoring, leading to improved student performance.
- May require attendance at meetings and other activities which exceed the contractually stipulated work schedule for teachers; i.e., Regional EL Council meetings.
- Collaborate with other staff to support grade-level curriculum.
- Ensure a safe learning environment.
- Assist with the planning, coordination, and participation of school-related
- Keep an inventory of supplies and equipment based on program needs.
- Keep abreast of current topics in Spanish and ESL education.
- Participate in continuing professional development and additional training, as required.
- Proficient use of employee technology resources in accordance with District policy and procedures (e.g., email, District web applications, online training, absence management, etc.).
- Proficient use of instructional technology to meet student’s needs (e.g., SMART Boards, assistive technology, computers, tablets, etc.).
- Participate in continuing professional development and additional training, as required.
- Comply with the Connecticut Code of Professional Responsibility for Teachers.
Minimum Requirements:
- Valid Connecticut State Department of Education Certification in Elementary Education and/or Spanish and/or World Language Instruction for Grades PK to 6.
- Experience with developmentally appropriate, activity-based teaching and learning.
- Near-native fluency in Spanish.
- Experience teaching a foreign language to elementary-aged students with emphasis on listening and speaking.
- Demonstrated knowledge of differentiation for high achieving and struggling learners.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively with others.
- Demonstrated skills with instructional technology.
- Strong organizational skills.
