We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Accountant to join our finance team. This role will support the Controller and CFO in maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring smooth operational processes, and providing key insights to drive business decisions. The Accountant will handle accounts receivable (AR), accounts payable (AP), journal entries, month-end close, and financial analysis for various projects. Additionally, this position will play a critical role in assisting with budgeting, as well as the processing and payment of royalty distributions to artists and rights holders.
Responsibilities
- Manage accounts receivable (AR) and accounts payable (AP) processes, ensuring timely and accurate invoicing, payments, and reconciliations.
- Prepare and post journal entries to maintain the general ledger in compliance with company policies and GAAP standards.
- Execute month-end close procedures, including account reconciliations and financial statement preparation, in collaboration with the Controller.
- Conduct financial analysis on specific projects, such as album releases or publishing deals, to assess profitability and performance.
- Assist in the annual budgeting process by compiling data, forecasting expenses, and supporting variance analysis.
- Support the royalty payment process by processing calculations, verifying accuracy, and facilitating timely disbursements to artists, songwriters, and other stakeholders.
- Collaborate with the Controller and CFO to streamline workflows, improve reporting accuracy, and provide ad hoc financial insights as needed.
- Maintain organized documentation and ensure compliance with internal controls and audit requirements.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 2-4 years of hands-on experience applying GAAP principles to financial reporting, general ledger management, and month-end close processes.
- Thorough understanding of AP, AR, and GL processes with proven ability to manage end-to-end workflows efficiently.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial data and provide actionable insights.
- Experience assisting with budgeting or financial forecasting.
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel (PivotTables, VLOOKUPs).
- Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Team player with strong communication skills and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
Preferred Qualifications
- 2-4 years of accounting experience in the music, entertainment, or creative industries.
- Experience with royalty accounting or payment processing.
- Experience with Sage Intacct.
- Understanding of music industry revenue streams (e.g., streaming, publishing, licensing).
