What are the responsibilities and job description for the Bethel Kitchen Assistant position at Bethel Church of Redding?
The Kitchen Assistant is a motivated, detail-oriented team member supporting the Bethel Kitchen’s operations. Working closely with the Kitchen Manager, this role helps execute kitchen projects, cater events, and provide hospitality to the church community. By ensuring food production meets high standards of quality and consistency, the Kitchen Assistant plays a vital role in creating an excellent and nourishing environment that reflects Bethel’s vision of Heaven on Earth. This position requires a passion for food, organizational and communication skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced kitchen setting.
Hours: 0-15 hours per week
Salary: $16.50 per hour
Food Preparation:
- Assist in the preparation of various menu items, following established recipes and portion sizes.
- Closely assist the Kitchen Manager in shopping, preparing, cooking, delegating, leading volunteer teams, planning, delivering, setting up, clean up, etc.
- Serve the various functions that the kitchen caters to.
- Inspect delivery accuracy and timelines.
- Ensure all food products are handled, stored, and prepared in accordance with food safety and sanitation guidelines.
- Ensure that all catering orders are prepared in a timely manner.
Inventory Management:
- Monitor inventory levels of kitchen supplies and ingredients.
- Inform Kitchen Manager of replenishment needs to ensure items are ordered in a timely manner.
Quality Control:
- Work closely with the Kitchen Manager to conduct quality checks on ingredients and prepared dishes to maintain consistent standards.
- Track expiration dates and rotate stock to minimize food waste and ensure freshness.
- Work closely with the Head Chef to address any quality concerns and make necessary adjustments.
Kitchen Organization:
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment, including proper storage of ingredients, utensils, and equipment.
- Assist in the overall cleanliness of the kitchen and with closing procedures including cleaning the kitchen and managing storage.
Collaboration:
- Work closely with the Kitchen Manager and Kitchen Staff, and occasionally leads teams of Kitchen Volunteers to ensure smooth coordination each week and during events.
- Communicate effectively with team members and other departments to facilitate an encouraging, positive and productive work environment emphasizing teamwork and servant-hearted leadership.
- Assist and lead volunteers in their tasks and provide support and direction.
Adherence to Procedures:
- Adhere to Bethel Church’s policies, procedures, and safety standards.
- Follow established guidelines for food handling, storage, and preparation.
Minimum Qualifications - REQUIREMENTS of the position, including minimum education and experience, and soft skills
- Valid CA Food Handlers Certificate or willingness to obtain within 30 days of employment.
- Basic knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices.
- Ability to follow recipes and instructions with precision.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
- Flexibility to work in a fast-paced and dynamic kitchen environment.
- Physical stamina and the ability to stand for extended periods.
