Custodian

We are seeking a full-time Custodian who supports Bethel’s work by maintaining the cleanliness of the church, setting up and taking down for meetings and special events, and groundskeeping. This position works day time hours with rotating weekends and some hoildays.

Role Responsibilities:

• Perform routine daily and weekly cleaning which may include mopping, sweeping, vacuuming, dusting, polishing, and window cleaning.
• Maintain cleanliness of all rooms, stairwells, and entrances.
• Remove trash from all rooms, outdoor receptacles, and after events.
• Set up and take down rooms for meetings and special events per the set-up sheets.
• Prepare and operate the sound system.
• Perform minor building maintenance such as changing light bulbs.
• Remove snow and ice from sidewalks and entrances.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualification Requirements:

• 1 year of directly related experience is preferred.
• Support the mission and ministry of Bethel Lutheran Church.
• Ability to work weekends and holidays as needed based on church programming.
• Self-integrity and the ability to assume and maintain trust and responsibility in keeping with the nature of the work in a religious institution is required.
• Demonstrated reliability and attendance.
• Ability to work an on-call schedule as needed.
• Ability to work with other people in a positive, professional, and supporting manner.
• Knowledge of floor cleaning equipment use and basic maintenance.
• Ability to work independently and proactively identify problems and work to be done.
• Strong time management skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to effectively interact with church and staff members.
• Basic computer, AV Skills.
• Completion of a background check is required.

Physical Requirements (with or without reasonable accommodation):

• Ability to lift and move 40 pounds.
• Ability to work inside and outside the building in weather related conditions.
• Hand and finger dexterity.
