Job Summary

Leads the staff accountant team and maintains accounting principles, practices, and procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial statements.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities

General Accounting Functions - 50%

Operation of the general ledger system.

  • Oversees journal entries.
  • Oversees month-end close.
  • Reconciles various bank, investment and general ledger accounts.
  • Assists with payroll, accounts payable accounts receivable when needed.
  • Completes property and sales tax returns.
  • Ensures compliance with state escheat laws.
  • Maintain fixed asset listing and inventory.
  • Communicates important information pertaining to general accounting and the business office to the community.

Supervision - 30%

Supervises and leads a team of staff and student workers.

Assisting Department Leaders - 10%

Assists department with resolution of accounting issues.

Business Office Functions -10%

Assist with annual audits.

  • Assists with the 990 form.
  • Develops and maintains business office procedures and practices.

    Required Skills

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and the Google Suite.
  • Must have the ability to solve complex math problems.
  • Must be a proven self-starter.
  • Must be able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Must be detail-oriented.
  • Must have effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Must be able to organize, prioritize, and handle multiple duties.
  • Working knowledge of GAAP principles.
  • Individual must be able to handle sensitive, confidential information in a professional manner.
  • Working knowledge of a Student Information System.
  • Working knowledge of a CRM system.
  • Must have strong supervisory skills.
  • Experience

  • 5 years of related experience.
  • Education

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business or a related field.
  • Additional Information

    Travel : Some local, regional and national travel may be required for this position.

    Work Environment :

    This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as desktop and / or laptop computers, photocopiers and smartphones.

    Expected Hours of Work :

    Typically, days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, with the expectation to work specific schedules and hours as identified and communicated by management. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand. This is a 40 hour per week, 12 months per year position.
