Job Description:
The Sonography Supervisor is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the Ultrasound Department at UVM Medical Center, ensuring compliance with regulatory mandates, quality imaging, and maintaining quality assurance in all aspects of sonography services. This includes overseeing staff, clinical procedures, and educational instruction for students and sonographers.
The Supervisor will assist in the development of policies and procedures, contribute to budgetary responsibilities, and support long-term planning for the department. The role will balance administrative and operational tasks, alongside staffing responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee daily operations of the Ultrasound Department (including breast and diagnostic ultrasound services).
- Ensure compliance with quality imaging standards and regulatory mandates (ACR accreditation, etc.).
- Perform clinical procedures and supervise clinical instruction by ultrasound educators.
- Assist with departmental budgeting and operational planning.
- Participate in long-term planning and departmental goal setting.
- Flexible scheduling with the potential for occasional remote work, alongside off-hour phone support for staff as needed.
Must-Have Requirements:
- Graduate of an accredited Radiography program (Bachelor’s degree preferred).
- Certification in Sonography (ARDMS).
- 5 years of progressive experience in sonography, including breast ultrasound experience.
- Experience in inspection and accreditation for Sonography (ACR).
Nice-to-Have:
- Experience in a unionized environment.
- Experience with project and/or budget planning.
- Lead sonographer experience.
Job Environment:
- This role is based in a Level I trauma center, with the Ultrasound Department offering services at both the main campus and the Fanny Allen campus.
- The department operates 24/7, and the Supervisor will assist with staffing, ensuring service delivery around the clock.
Physical & Work Requirements:
- Flexibility in hours and scheduling based on departmental needs.
- Availability for phone support during off-hours.
