Summary

Under general direction, provide case management and crisis intervention to victims of family violence and domestic violence. Case Managers provide support to victims in crisis, conducts assessments, educate on the legal process, make appropriate referrals, educate clients on victims' rights and the dynamics of domestic violence. Case managers will be providing supportive services and referrals to support victim safety and autonomy. Case managers will be expected to work 24 hour on-call shifts, work weekends, and holidays. Case managers will be working in an office setting, performing fieldwork and office visits with clients, and be mobile throughout the County when necessary. Working conditions are primarily in an office environment. May exercise supervision over assigned staff.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Operates and responds appropriately to alerts and case assignment from the Domestic Violence Navigation line and other referral sources.
  • Conducts assessments of client needs by providing crisis intervention, safety planning, and case management services for clients
  • Will be on-call to provide crisis intervention and safety planning to High-Risk clients on the DV Navigation line
  • Will provide safety planning, services, and crisis intervention as needed to At-Risk clients during business hours
  • Conduct risk assessment, needs assessment, and safety plans with families.
  • Be aware of local community resources and make appropriate referrals.
  • Develops casework / service plans and monitors progress by conducting follow-ups with clients based on client need
  • Coordinates with other social service agencies, organizations, and vendors to provide appropriate services and information to clients
  • Provides advocacy on behalf of the client by making appropriate referrals to other social service, education, health agencies, and navigating the criminal justice system as needed by client.
  • Upon supervisory approval, plans, organizes, and participates in special needs projects including outreach efforts, public speaking, and special activities to clients and the Bexar County community
  • Creates and maintains all necessary documentation in an appropriate and timely manner
  • May perform other related duties as required

Minimum Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, Criminal Justice, or Criminology with three (3) years of experience in social services related work and; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Knowledge of social service policies / procedures and of local social services, organizations, programs, and resources available; knowledge of Federal, state and local programs laws and requirements; knowledge of the legal system as it relates to the mentally ill; knowledge of computer equipment to include word processing, spreadsheets, databases and a variety of software packages
  • Skill in providing assistance to clients and referring clients to appropriate social services organizations and programs; skill in interviewing techniques; skill in problem solving and decision making
  • Ability in dealing with persons experiencing domestic violence, trauma, and economic stresses; ability to communicate effectively de-escalate and interact with people in crisis; ability to work effectively under high-pressure circumstances; ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing; ability to communicate effectively with diverse groups of individuals utilizing tact and diplomacy; ability to operate personal computer and basic office equipment; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients and / or families, co-workers, County employees, and community outreach and other organizations, clinical and other social service providers
  • Must secure and maintain a favorable background investigation from Bexar County Human Resources and maintain CJIS eligibility
  • Must secure and maintain a pre-employment physical and a pre-employment drug screen test
  • May be required to work more than 40 hours during work and on-call hours
  • Preferred Qualifications :

  • Experience working with victims of violence
  • Experience working in on-call settings
  • Demonstrated commitment to engaging and providing services to people who have been victimized by family violence, sexual violence, or abuse
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity and respectful engagement with communities
  • Experience developing and maintaining relationships with diverse community partners,
  • including law enforcement and community agencies
  • Familiar with community service programs and case management techniques
  • Fluent in Spanish
  • Working Environment and Physical Demands :

  • Mostly working in indoor conditions
  • Occasionally may work outside of office for field visits
  • Frequently moves items weighing up to 15 pounds
  • Occasionally moves items weighing up to 40 pounds

  • Frequently communicates with others; must be able to exchange accurate information
  • Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery
