Summary
Under direct supervision, is responsible for typing and transcribing autopsy protocols, manuscripts and correspondence; prepares basic reports; maintains computerized files; and performs related duties as required.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Transcribes complex forensic data from Dictaphone tapes generated during autopsies by Medical Examiners
- Prepares various forensic documents including autopsy protocols, manuscripts and correspondence utilizing a personal computer and / or typewriter
- Types moderately complex letters / memos and prepares court documents for Medical Examiners
- Develops and maintains files
- Performs quality assurance on completed cases and legal documents
- Scans completed cases into electronic KOVIS system
- Maintains statistics and develops reports
- Answers telephone, routes calls and takes messages utilizing some discretion
- Maintains schedules including routine appointments and court appearances
- Responds to general questions and complaints regarding department or work
- Aids in answering questions from bereaved family members
- May assume the duties of the office assistants in a relief capacity
- Performs other duties as required
