Under direction, coordinates activities for families in need of social services. Provides strengths-based case management services and utilizes leadership strategies when working with families. Exercises no supervision.

This position is a "grant funded" position, therefore unclassified and has no disciplinary appeal rights to the Municipal Civil Service Commission. This position is likewise subject to at-will employment status and can be terminated at any time for any reason.

Work Hours
8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday - Friday 
  • Follows social service program requirements pertaining to families; supports and monitors families' efforts to complete their self- identified goals; and performs timely completion of all case management requirements.
  • Provides families with appropriate community resources and linkages and assists families in crisis in areas such as food, housing, clothing, and transportation.
  • Implements the relevant social service program framework components necessary to successfully support families.
  • May make home visits as needed.
  • Provides case management to families in social service programs.
  • Assists in offering families opportunities to be involved in group activities such as parent advisory groups, policy groups, and educational activities based on interest and need.
  • Provides opportunities for children and families to participate in family educational programs and for parents to participate in the development of the programs' educational curriculum.
  • Provides engagement and educational activities that meet the on-going and expressed needs of families.
  • Collaborates with program staff to provide opportunities to families, including child growth and development, parenting skills, child abuse prevention, guidance and discipline, medical, dental, nutritional, and mental health, disabilities, family literacy, and community advocacy.
  • Assists families through the transition within the social services program.
  • May participate in recruitment activities for social service programs and help with the enrollment process, including completing the required forms.
  • Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.
  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Valid Class 'C' Texas Driver's License.
  • Positions in the Head Start Program: Current Pediatric CPR and First Aid Certification required or must obtain Pediatric CPR; and First Aid Certification within first 60 days in position
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office.
  • Two (2) years of experience in social work, family support, or related field.
Applicant Information
  • Unless otherwise stated, applicants are permitted to substitute two years of related full-time experience for one year of higher education or one year of related higher education for two years of experience in order to meet the minimum requirements of the job. One year of full-time experience is defined as 30 or more hours worked per week for 12 months. One year of higher education is defined as 30 credit hours completed at an accredited college or university.

  • Ability to respect and respond competently to the culture, traditions, lifestyle, language, and values of each family
  • Ability to maintain a working environment which encourages mutual respect and congenial relationships between employees and is free from all forms of harassment
  • Ability to utilize various learning techniques in the successful delivery of family and community support services
  • Ability to develop, implement, and evaluate new programs
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively
  • Ability to perform all the essential functions of the position, with or without accommodations
  • Ability to work primarily in an office environment
