What are the responsibilities and job description for the Accounting Clerk III position at Bexar County?
Under direct supervision, is responsible for receiving visitors; provides information and directions to employees, the public; and performs related duties as required.
Respond to general payroll questions from employees and various offices and departments via email and telephone
Greets and directs all office visitors related to payroll
Answers telephone and routes calls as needed
Receives and distributes all incoming mail and payroll documents
Prepares verification of employment requested by a variety of companies and employees
Updates payroll system with W4 changes as requested by employees
Process service pins for all County employees who have reached specified years of service
Upon request, notify the Parking Division of employees who have reached 25 years of service and are therefore entitled to free parking
Distributes Payroll Certifications to all Offices and Departments each payday
Assists with gathering documents for open records requests as well as requests made by external auditors
Performs general clerical duties
Performs other duties as assigned by Managers
Graduation from High School or a General Education Development (GED) certificate.
Two (2) years of college preferred.
At least One (1) year of experience dealing with a high volume of phone calls and emails.
Ability to maintain confidentiality of Payroll information.
Skilled in operating a personal computer, scanner, and other office equipment.
Skilled in completing tasks effectively and efficiently.
Skilled in problem-solving, decision-making, and maintaining accurate records.
Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, County employees, and the public.
Physical requirements include occasionally lifting/carrying of 10-15 pounds; visual acuity, speech, and hearing; hand and eye coordination and manual dex1erity necessary to operate computer keyboard.
Subject to sitting, walking, reaching, bending, twisting, standing, and handling to perform the essential functions.
Must secure and maintain a favorable background investigation and clearance
Must clear a pre-employment physical and a pre-employment drug screen test
May be required to work more than 40 hours during the workweek
Working Environment and Physical Demands:
Generally working in indoor conditions
Occasionally moves items weighing up to 20 pounds
Occasionally moves about the office
Frequently communicates with others; must be able to exchange accurate information
Generally operates a computer and other office productivity machinery
Positions self to perform essential functions
Must be able to remain in a stationary position.
