Summary
Under general supervision, is responsible for the maintenance and repairs of general service equipment/systems in assigned County buildings; coordinates maintenance,supervises semi-skilled and unskilled workers in routine maintenance and repairs; assists in accomplishment of more complex maintenance and repairs; and performs related duties as required.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintains and repairs general service equipment/systems such as electrical and plumbing in assigned County buildings
- Supervises, directs maintenance and schedules semi-skilled and unskilled workers in routine building maintenance and repair
- Monitors activities of outside contractors for compliance to contract
- Performs daily maintenance inspections of assigned buildings and grounds
- Maintains time and attendance records for supervised employees
- Performs related duties as required
Minimum Qualifications
- Graduation from High School or General Education Development (GED) certificate, and four (4) years progressively responsible experience in commercial building maintenance including two (2) years as a maintenance supervisor; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Good knowledge of repair and maintenance of commercial building equipment to include plumbing, electrical work, carpentry, electronics, and heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems; good knowledge of all related tools and equipment; good knowledge of safety standards and practices
- Skill in the operation of all related tools and equipment
- Ability to perform a variety of maintenance functions; ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, department heads, County employees, outside agencies/vendors and the general public
- Must have a valid Texas driver's license
- Positions budgeted within County-Jail Maintenance Section must secure and maintain a favorable background investigation and clearance
- Must secure and maintain a pre-employment physical and a pre-employment drug screen test
- May be required to work more than 40 hours during the workweek
- Required to be on-call 24-hours a day
Working Conditions and Physical Demands:
- Working conditions are primarily indoors with exposure to temperature variations
- May require to work in jail environment
- Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions
- Work involves moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as damp/wet surfaces, extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
- Frequently moves equipment weighing up to 25 pounds
- Occasionally moves objects weighing up to 100 pounds
- Will frequently communicate with co-workers; must be able to exchange accurate information
- Frequently moves about buildings
- Constantly positions self to perform essential functions
- Constantly operates tools and equipment
